At the end of Round 4, we clearly had a top 3 and a bottom 3. The top 3 were going for Cup qualification whilst the bottom 3 were looking to secure Plate qualification and avoid elimination from the tournament.

We began with two teams in the lower half of the table, AFC Blue Boys versus RAF Fylingdales. AFC Blue Boys only needed to avoid defeat to guarantee a place in the Plate. If they were to lose, they would need to hope the 6th placed teams in Groups A & C did not have a better record. For RAF Fylingdales, they simply had to win but then would still need to hope other results in the other groups would go their way.

With the match underway it was RAF Fylingdales who opened the scoring with Tom Sivills on target for the first time in the tournament. AFC Blue Boys had started so well today but results had been on the slide since but they now needed to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Any hopes of a comeback were nullified when Shaun Miller put RAF Fylingdales 2-0 up. It was the crucial second goal they'd been missing so far in this tournament. At the other end, they were defensively on top with Stan Davies and his defence completing a clean sheet. Final score 2-0. RAF Fylingdales had leapfrogged their opponents into 5th and they would progress to the Plate. AFC Blue Boys would need to wait and see if 3 points was enough to join them.

Whilst events between RAF Fylingdales and AFC Blue Boys were unfolding on Pitch B, we had Wentworth Arms Athletic and CBT FC in action on Pitch C. In terms of qualification there was less riding on this game relative to the other two fixtures in Round 5. Wentworth Arms Athletic were top of the table with a 3 point advantage over their nearest two rivals (who were due to meet on Pitch D) so they were guaranteed a top two finish. However, they would dearly love to go through as Group B winners and they only needed a point to guarantee that. A win would mean they would finish Group B with a 100% record – a rare achievement in our events.

For CBT FC, they started Round 5 in fourth position and could finish no higher than that. They needed to avoid 6 th place to guarantee a place in the Plate and with the two teams below them due to meet that was already assured. They had a free hit to get some form and momentum going into the knockout phase.

The opening goal went with the form book as Wentworth Arms Athletic lead through Liam O'Connell. He'd completed a remarkable achievement of scoring in every game of Group B. What was particularly noteworthy is that it was precisely one goal per game. Often when you have someone score in every game there's a brace or a hat-trick in there.

However, O'Connell's goal would not be enough to earn three points as CBT FC had the final say. Phil Hodgson's captain's goal would earn a 1-1 draw for his team as they finished fourth. The goal would not detract from a great performance from Wentworth Arms Athletic as they won Group B – well done to them.

Into Game 15 of Group B and we had Corner Bar v Average Joes to finish off proceedings. This match was a straight shoot-out for second position in the table. The winners would take second place and guarantee a place in the Cup competition. A draw would see Corner Bar take second place as they had the superior goal difference. 10 points for Average Joes would also see them go through to the Cup as one of the best two third placed teams. A defeat for either would see the loser sweating on Cup qualification to see if their haul of 9 points would see them as one of those two best third placed finishers.

We were expecting a close game given the two teams records and performances today but the game ended up a little one-sided, at least in terms of the score. Corner Bar were flying at this stage with a goal difference of 15-1 in their last 3 games. Average Joes were powerless to stop them advancing that position. Will Denny was the man with the opening goal and he bagged a second for good measure. When Cowan McCormick made it 3-0 it was one-way traffic.

Average Joes responded with a Dom Malizis goal (his second of the tournament) but Corner Bar re-established the three goal cushion as Will Denny completed his hat-trick.

It was a great result for Corner Bar and they'd be a team to watch going into the knock-out phase. For Average Joes, signs were looking good that they had done enough to join Corner Bar and Wentworth Arms Athletic in the Cup too.
