At the start of Round 3, we had The Yol versus W London.

In 2023, W London competed at the 2023 Amsterdam Fives. It was a tournament of two halves for them with no win in their first four games but finishing with 3 victories – and two big wins! They were competitive from the start with a narrow 3-2 loss to Elstead Reds before a 4-4 draw with Shab-Tilburg. Another draw followed with a 2-2 v Ball Sports Pinks before a 3-1 loss to Les Collegues. They needed to win their final game to avoid elimination and they did just that with a 3-2 win against LSVG1 to leapfrog their opponents. They qualified for the Plate and smashed it as if it was a Greek wedding. In the Semi-Finals they defeated Ball Sports Reds 7-2. In the Plate Final they hit seven again to see off Sweden's BK Manskomplex, 7-1. There was no doubt they were deserved Plate winners.

So far today, they had gone from the extreme of an 8-2 defeat to a 1-0 win. The Yol were looking for their first points of the day having lost 3-1 and 4-1. The Yol had taken the lead in both of those games so they may have feared the worst when Cash Radford put them ahead for the third game in a row.

This time though they scored the all important second goal with Dan Gleeson extending the lead to 2-0. With the wind in their sails Joe Holmes sealed a fine 3-0 victory. The Yol were off and running.

Next up we had Sheffield Thursday versus Ecuador 100%. Sheffield Thursday had enjoyed a very impressive debut so far with 4 points from a possible 6 but they were about to face their sternest test. Ecuador 100% came into the game with 8-2 and 8-0 wins already today. They were strong favourites to make it 3 wins out of 3 despite the good start from Sheffield Thursday.

There's no other way to describe Sheffield Thursday's performance other than brilliant. The potent Ecuador 100% attack were made to look impotent in contrast to their first two games. The Sheffield Thursday defence was standing strong and for long periods this game remained 0-0. We went into the final minute and we were still goalless.

Ecuador 100% are 3-times champions because they can find a way to win when they needed to. With the last kick of the game Matheu Paz scored the vital goal to break Sheffield Thursday hearts. They were moments away from a famous draw. This result should give them confidence going into the remaining games though.

It was Wentworth Arms Royals versus Deportivo Dooradoyle to complete Round 3.

Deportivo Dooradoyle made their debut with us at the 2011 Amsterdam Fives and they've toured with us every year since (excluding the Covid years) and this was their second visit to the Mallorca Fives. They were here in 2022 to compete with two squads. The Deportivo Dooradoyle squad had a tough start with 4 defeats on the bounce before finishing with a 2-1 win v Lindfield FC C. They qualified for the Plate QF but went down 4-0 to Urbansport. Their Alabama Hotpockets team produced a great group phase finishing second of six teams with only the defending champions Ecuador 100% above them. 3 wins and 1 draw with just the 1 defeat (guess who against?) saw them qualify for the Cup with 10 goals scored and 5 conceded. In the Cup QF they drew 0-0 with Poland's AFC Blue Boys before progressing via penalties. They met their nemesis, Ecuador 100%, in the SF and bowed out 5-0.

Deportivo Dooradoyle had won one and lost one so far today. They were in third position at kick-off but could rise to second with a win. Kevin Shine scored in the 3-1 win over The Yol and he scored for the second time today to give his team a 1-0 lead here. Wentworth Arms Royals had started off with a 1-1 draw and would gain their second point of the day if they could grab a goal here. They found Neil Timothy and his defence in fine form though as Deportivo Dooradoyle kept a clean sheet and completed the 1-0 win in the process.
