We were almost at the conclusion of Group B. Round 5 began with Tinniedad & Tobacco versus Football Bassano MMIII. What a game this promised to be as it was first place versus second place.

Tinniedad & Tobacco were already assured of Cup qualification but they could also ensure the Group B title, a theoretically easier Quarter-Final tie and keep their 100% record today going. A draw would also be good enough to see them win Group B and they could even afford a defeat as long as it was only by a goal and Cudny Jozef did not win big in their final game.

For Football Bassano MMIII a 2-goal win would most likely see them Group B champions. A draw would see them qualify for the Cup in 2nd place or as one of the best third placed teams. A defeat might be ok but they would be sweating on results in other groups.

The game was 0-0 at half-time in a result that would probably suit both teams to some extent. The game would not finish 0-0 though – an Antonio Lancerin strike would win it for Football Bassano MMIII. A superb victory for the Italian team.

It meant both teams would progress to the Cup and both teams had an overall chance of winning this tournament. For Tinnidad & Tobacco it meant their unbeaten record would end at 17 games. This was a massive win for Football Bassano MMIII.

Maverick FC entered the penultimate fixture of Group B knowing a defeat would condemn them to the Wooden Spoon playoff. A draw or win might just save the day as the other 6th placed teams were on 0 points but it would depend upon results in Groups A and C.

Cudny Jozef could make it a three-team tie on 12 points at the top of Group B and they could even win the group although they would need to win by 7 to overtake Tinniedad & Tobacco on goal difference.

After the early exchanges Cudny Jozef were on course for a win but not for the emphatic win that would see them Group B winners. They lead 2-1 thanks to goals from Anton Kut and Ian Corkill. Sean Barwick scored a sublime goal for Maverick FC to keep it close.

After the break it looked like Cudny Jozef were really going for the group win. They were looking determined and opened up a 5-1 win (further goals from Kut to complete a hat-trick and Ian Corkill). They still needed 3 more but their hopes were dashed when Sean Barwick made it 5-2. Not only did it mean Cudny Jozef needed 4 but it took the sting and momentum out of the chase – plus, time was running out.

The game finished 5-2 and Cudny Jozef can consider themselves very unlucky to finish with 12 points but finish 3 rd (on goal difference).

Into Game 15 of Group B and there was still Misfits FC versus Johnsbridge FC to decide how the table would look in the annals of history (yes, 2 x ‘n'). Both teams knew they would be competing in the Plate competition this afternoon but who would finish 4 th and who would finish 5th? The prize for the higher finish was a theoretically easier Quarter-Final tie and of course honour and pride.

The two teams looked pretty evenly matched and it was no surprise to see the teams level at the break, 1-1. There was a goal for Lee Bridge of Misfits FC and Spartacus , Brian Kirpal Sadheura of Johnsbridge FC.

Should the game finish in a draw it would be Johnsbridge FC who would finish in 4th due to their superior goal difference. The onus was therefore more on Misfits FC to win it and that is exactly what they did. Mike Kinealy popped up to score the winner and secure all 3 points for Misfits FC.
