At the start of Round 3, we had Always Short versus Fleet Street Elite 1. Both teams were looking for their first points of the today and at least 1 of these teams would break their duck when this fixture concluded.

After a competitive first half there was nothing to separate the two teams and for the first time in Group A we had a goal-less opening period of action. We were to bear witness to goals in the second period and it was Always Short who forged ahead. Lee Kingham scored his second of the tournament and James Douglas then opened his personal account to make it 2-0.

Fleet Street Elite 1 were looking for their first goal of the tournament and they did not have to wait too much longer as Henry Galezowski reduced the deficit to 2-1.

As the sands of time ran out on the second half there was to be no further score and Always Short bagged their first European win.

Next up we had GSF Drunkerz versus Tea Time. At the start of Round 3 these teams were 2nd and 4th in the table and both needed the points to help propel them up Group A in their search for Cup qualification.

GSF Drunkerz came into the game unbeaten this morning but that record was under threat when Olivier Agar scored his first of the day to put Tea Time 1-0 up. That was to be the half-time score.

In the group stages of eurofootballfives.com tournaments GSF Drunkerz had a record of won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 and they would need to find the net to avoid adding to that tally in the final column. Martin Volek had been an important player for GSF Drunkerz in the 2014 and 2015 Bratislava Fives with 4 goals and 7 goals respectively. With a hat-trick in the last game he was in good goal-scoring form and his 15th eurofootballfives.com ensured this game would finish 1-1.

It was 3rd placed Spider Mans & Great hawk against the league leaders FC Funtime in the final fixture of Round 3. Whoever won this would go top of the Group A table.

FC Funtime currently held top spot but they were to fall behind when Ali Stewart gave Spider Mans & Great Hawk a crucial first-half lead. From then on it was one way traffic after the break.

The goals flowed with Jon Newberry and Ben Jones extending the lead to 3-0. It was to get worse for FC Funtime when they conceded such an obvious penalty that the FC Funtime defender appeared to call the penalty – the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. Liam Angel converted it and wrapped up a sensational 4-0 win.

Spider Mans & Great Hawk were the new leaders in Group A and, along with their Eagles squad in Group C, were enjoying a thoroughly successful morning. For FC Funtime, they should not be too despondent at losing to such a good team and they still had 2 games to left to get their title challenge back on track.
