We began Round 5 with a lot to be decided – we still had 4 teams in with a shout of qualifying for the Cup. Two of those teams would come head to head in the form of GSF Drunkerz and FC Funtime. GSF Drunkerz had secured 8 points from a possible 12 so far and victory would guarantee Cup qualification. A draw may be enough subject to other results in Group A (and potentially other results in Groups B and C).

A win for FC Funtime and a win for Tea Time would see GSF Drunkerz slip into the Plate and the two Polish teams qualify at their expense. FC Funtime came into the game on the back of two straight defeats and needed to turn their fortunes around.

FC Funtime had also gone two games without scoring and they put that right here with Kasper Kulinowski scoring his fourth at the tournament. Alas for FC Funtime, they conceded two at the other end as a Tomas Carny double gave GSF Drunkerz an important 2-1 lead at half-time.

GSF Drunkerz had drawn two of their games so far and a draw here would be a drag on their Cup qualification claims. Martin Volek's goal would make it 3-1 to GSF Drunkerz and they were in control. Volek had scored a hat-trick earlier this morning and now his colleague, Tomas Carny, would emulate that achievement as he scored to make it 4-1. GSF Drunkerz's quest for the title was on!

Next up was Fleet Street Elite 1 versus Spider Mans & Great Hawk. Due to their superior goal difference, Spider Mans & Great Hawk only needed a draw to progress to the Cup and also win the Group A title – a win would see them do it in style.

Fleet Street Elite 1 were located at the foot of Group A and if they could pull off a result could potentially overtake Always Short into 5th place. To avoid going into the Wooden Spoon competition they needed to better the results of the teams currently occupying 6th in Groups B and C.

Fleet Street Elite 1 turned in a battling and competitive performance that saw them retain parity with their illustrious opposition going into half-time. A repeat of that in the second half and some clinical prowess up front may see a surprise on the cards.

An Adam Woodmansey goal meant that the form book could probably be relied on as he sent the men in black 1-0 up. Sam A'Court put the result beyond doubt when he made it 2-0. Spider Mans & Great Hawk had won the game and also Group A – many congratulations to them.

Fleet Street Elite 1 would have to wait and see if their goal difference would see them through to the Plate or the Wooden Spoon play-off.

The final thing to wrap up Group A was Tea Time versus Always Short. With all the other games completed these two teams knew what they needed to do.

Let's start with Tea Time for whom the equation was quite simple – win. A win of any form would see them finish in third place in Group A and finish as the second best third placed team and thereby qualifying for the Cup. Anything less and the Plate competition would await them in the knock-out phase.

For Always Short Cup qualification was now out of their reach but they could go into the Plate with some momentum by taking victory here. They could also earn themselves a theoretically easier tie in the Quarter-Finals if they could jump above FC Funtime in the table. To do so, they would need to win by 3 or more (or 2 or more if the score was 4-2 or higher).

It didn't look like it was going to be a high scoring game at half-time and at the break we were locked together at 0-0. In the second half it was Always Short who drew first blood courtesy of a James Douglas strike. It was a hammer blow to Tea Time's Cup qualification hopes and a goal that raised the tension in the game. Tea Time drew level when Olivier Agar found the back of the net. At 1-1, there was a chance they could still go through if they found a winner.

Always Short defended stoutly and Tea Time lost their heads a little as they went all out to find the winner. When the referee drew the game and Group A to a close the score remained at 1-1. Both Always Short and Tea Time would play Plate football this afternoon.
