Johnsbridge FC came into Round 2 on the back of a tough opening defeat against Football Bassano MMIII so the last thing they needed was to come up against Tinniedad & Tobacco who were unbeaten (in normal time) in eurofootballfives.com competition dating back to Barcelona 2014. Not only that but Tinniedad & Tobacco had started well this morning with a 4-1 victory.

 

Johnsbridge FC started really well and it was they who opened up a 2-1 lead at half-time thanks to an own goal and a strike from Ollie Salvesen. Will Boulton's first goal of the tournament meant that Tinniedad & Tobacco were still very much in striking distance but that unbeaten record was under threat.

 

Tinniedad & Tobacco roared back in the second half and levelled things up at 2-2 through Jon McKinley's fourth goal of the morning. This was to be a springboard for a fine comeback as Michael Wilkes put Tinniedad & Tobacco ahead at 3-2 and help his team to all three points.

 

It was tough on Johnsbridge FC who left the field empty-handed. They had played two very strong teams though and things could only get better for them.

 
 
 

Misfits FC were back on the field next against Maverick FC. Misfits had lost narrowly in their opening game so were looking to bounce back quickly and put some points on the Group B table.

 

Maverick FC were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance having debuted at the 2015 Budapest Fives. They drew a tough group that featured the previous year's runners-up (Argentina), the eventual Plate winners (Naranjitos), two-times Group winners Fritzl Palace and the strongest of 3 Budapest Celtic teams in the tournament draw. They finished 5th in their group and went through to the Plate where 3 Lions FC defeated them 4-1. They will hope for a kinder draw in Krakow.

 

It didn't look like they had got a kinder draw – in fact it could well prove to be even tougher. On the back of Tinniedad & Tobacco they now faced Misfits FC who came out the blocks quickly and established a 2-0 lead. Both goals came from Tom Carroll.

 

The second half was a closer affair and the game finished 2-0. Misfits FC were off and running.

 
 
 

The game that would complete Round 2 was Cudny Jozef against Football Bassano MMIII. This was a big fixture for these two teams who had both won their opening fixture and were looking to kick on and make it 6 points out of 6 to join Tinniedad & Tobacco at the top of Group B.

 

It proved to be a close opening period of play and in fact there was nothing to separate the two teams at half-time. We were level at 0-0.

 

We were to see goals in the second half and had 3 of them to savour – it was Cudny Jozef who emerged on top as Anton Kut's 2 goals outgunned Francesco Oliverio's goal for the Italian team.

 

The Polish team (featuring an Englishman and 2 Belarussians) had collected maximum points and were joint top – second on goal difference. Football Bassano MMIII still had 3 games to get their title challenge back on track.
