Cracow
United and Contejus Hurricanes FC went into their
third fixtures with identical records – both had
the maximum 6 points under their belts and both
were looking in good form. The joint group-leaders
were coming head-to-head and the winners would
take a giant step towards Cup qualification.
The
goals had been flowing so far for Cracow United
with 12 in 2 games. Contejus Hurricanes were yet
to concede but that was to change against this
potent Polish attack. There was just the one goal
in the first half and it came from goalkeeper/striker
Ian Corkhill. Corkhill was our top goalscorer
last year even though he played in goal for most
games. His personal account was up and running.
Contejus
Hurricanes were ahead for the first time today
– how could they respond? They showed plenty of
attacking intent but were then always vulnerable
to the counter attack. Florian Colas took advantage
to make it 2-0 and then Nicola Lamacchia (who
had now scored in every game) finished the job
to make it 3-0.
Cracow
United were flying. Contejus Hurricanes were still
in good shape with two games to go.
It
was now the turn of Hardly Athletic to put their
feet up as they collected the 3-0 walkover win
over Crazy Waiters. It made the league table
look easier on the eye for them.
The
final game of Round 3 saw Team Karma face Paris
Expats. Paris Expats came into the game with confidence
on the back of a win (one on pitch, one on paper)
and they would have fancied their chances against
Team Karma who were looking for their first goal
and points of the day.
Although
Team Karma's results of 0-4 and 0-2 did not look
pretty they had competed pretty well particularly
in the first half of those encounters. Could they
turn the performances into points? No, they couldn't.
But they could open their goal tally. Chris Weedon
grabbed Karma's first goal of the day but they
found themselves 2-1 down as Jules Gervais scored
twice for Paris Expats FC.
Jules
Gervais completed his hat-trick in the second
half to put him on two hat-tricks and 6 goals
for the day – an early contender for tournament
top goalscorer. Andy Gauld also scored for Team
Karma and we found ourselves at 3-2.
The
sands of time ran out and Paris Expats FC moved
onto 9 points with the win to join Cracow United
in joint first place. Team Karma slipped to 5th
position.
