We were now past the halfway stage at the 2013 Krakow Trophy and the teams really needed to press ahead to stake their qualification claims. There had been no bigger game in Group A than this one…. IFC versus The A Team.

The match saw the teams currently in second and third position come head to head and the result of this fixture would go a long way to deciding who would progress to the Cup from Group A. A win would be massive, a draw would leave both teams with much work to do in Round 5 and a defeat would be a big blow. There was very little to choose between the two teams and we were level at half-time, 1-1, as goals from Tomasz Korpusinski and Abdoulaye Coulibaly cancelled each other out.

In the second half it was The A Team who stepped up a gear and eeked out a vital three points. Jean-Marc Pirc made it 2-1 and further goals from Pirc and Coulibaly outgunned a strike from Bartosz Miskiewicz as the team from Paris completed a 4-2 victory.

The result put The A Team on top of Group A on 10 points (Budapest Celtic Lions with a game in hand) and they had almost certainly qualified for the Cup. For IFC, they were almost certain to finish in 3rd – their task now was to make sure they were one of the best 3rd placed finishers.

With the above result Budapest Celtic Lions needed another win to go back to the top of Group A – in their way stood Awiw. The Polish team were struggling in 4th place but two draws had stunted their progress. The last one against The A Team was a warning to Budapest Celtic Lions.

They were well to heed the warning as it was another good performance from Awiw and the two teams went into the break level at 0-0. Surely not a third draw in a row for Awiw?

It wasn't a draw, it was even better for Awiw as Patryk Grudzien scored twice in the second half to earn Awiw their first win of the day and inflict Budapest Celtic Lion's first defeat of the day. Ironically, it didn't help them too much in the league as they remained 4th but it certainly helped the A Team who kept their place on top of Group A.

All was not lost for Budapest Celtic Lions though as they remained second after this 2-1 defeat (Leo Kronberger with their goal incidentally).

To complete Round 4 we had Its Back versus Saga Louts. The two teams were yet to register a win today although Its Back did have a point to show for their efforts. Saga Louts would consider themselves unlucky to have nothing to show for their exploits today.

With the two teams sitting in 5th and 6th position you would think that each would think this was a great chance to get three points on the board. In the early exchanges it showed this would be a close contest and we reached half-time at 1-0. It was the Saga Louts who lead and it was Matt Johnson with the goal – four goals in four games for him….impressive stuff.

In the second half there was to be no addition to the score and Saga Louts saw out the 1-0 win. The result lifted them above their opponents into 5th place as Its Back slipped to the foot of the table.
