The
2015 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament Wooden Spoon Final
was the battle for 17th position, a consolation
prize and one last game to enjoy in this year's
tournament. It was the second Wooden Spoon Final
in JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament history and the
first since the inaugural tournament back in 2012.
On that occasion, GBS Reds B won it 8-0 over JNJ
Belgium Fun Team.
The
2015 tournament's Wooden Spoon game would again
be contested by GBS Reds B of the Czech Republic
and their opponents on this occasion would be
Leeds Two of England. GBS Reds B came into the
game as the 17 th ranked team courtesy of a superior
goal difference compared to their opponents in
the group phase and would start as slight favourites.
Leeds Two had lost to GBS Reds A at the end of
the group phase so this was an opportunity to
turn the tables on the Czechs if they could take
victory over the B team.
Following
the lunch break both teams had experienced a little
break before getting this match underway so would
the rest mean some stiffening of the joints or
would it mean a well-earned rest for some tired
lungs and hearts? With the Wooden Spoon Final
in play it was first blood to GBS Reds B who got
the scoring underway through Pavlo Fedyk who scored
a double to set the Czech team on their way. Pavel
Sroba made it 3-0 before half-time as the Wooden
Spoon Final proved to be one-way traffic. In the
second half there were further goals from Pavel
Sroba again and Marko Titzov (2) who became his
team's top goalscorer on the day with four. There
was no doubt which team would be collecting the
Wooden Spoon come the presentation ceremony.
There
was no way back for the Leeds Two team but they
did grab a consolation goal courtesy of Michael
McGoran's second of the tournament. GBS Reds B
chalked up a fine 6-1 victory. They quite looked
the Wooden Spoon now having an aggregate score
of 14-1 over the two games they'd played in 2012
and 2015. Congratulations to GBS Reds B, commiserations
to Leeds Two – we hope you all enjoyed you tour!
