We began Round 4 with JNJ Turkey versus Cilag Team 2. The two teams had mirror image records so far today. JNJ Turkey had gone win-loss-win whereas the Swiss had gone loss-win-loss. Cilag Team 2 would hope for these patterns to continue to join their opponents on 6 points in the league standings.

In the battle for the Group A title JNJ Turkey had the opportunity to top the table if they could win here and hope for favourable results in the other two games. It was a close encounter in the early stange as the two teams played out a 0-0 opening half. A draw, whilst clearly better than defeat, was not overly helpful to either team at this stage. For JNJ Turkey the likelihood is they would lose ground on GTSC and De Puy Synthes 1 and be vulnerable to the chasing teams for Cup qualification. For Cilag Team 2 it would probably leave them too much to do to make the Cup going into Round 5.

Could we find a winner? Yes we could. Edip Efe had scored four goals so far this morning and he added two more to his tally in the second half here to essentially win the points for JNJ Turkey. There was a goal for Djemail Useini but it would prove to be a mere consolation in this game as a Senol Kalebasi goal crowned a 3-1 win.

JNJ Turkey were now in a very strong position to make the Cup. For Cilag Team 2 it looked like they would play their knock-out football in the Plate.

The above result meant that GTSC and GBS Reds A both really needed a win to advance their own claims for Cup qualification. If GTSC could claim all 3 points they would go level with JNJ Turkey on 9 points and it would be a clear three-horse race for the Group A title. A GBS Reds A win would see them move above their opponents and give them a great chance of Cup qualification given their final fixture. There was a lot to play for.

There was some history between the two teams as they had met in the 2012 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament. On that occasion, GTSC ran out easy 6-0 winners but that was against the GBS Reds B team and they would no doubt find the A team a tougher proposition. There was also the added spice that in their ranks GTSC boasted Wilco Veldhuizen – a former GBS Reds player in both JNJ Euro Soccer Tournaments and GBS Reds tours in eurofootballfives.com competition.

This game did indeed prove to be much tighter than the 2012 fixture and at half-time there was nothing between the two teams, 0-0. In the second half there was to be a winner. There was to be just the goal to decide things and perhaps it was written in the stars that it would be Wilco Veldhuizen who would return to haunt his former team-mates. Final score, 1-0 to GTSC.

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was the not-so-small matter of De Puy Synthes 1 versus Leeds Two. De Puy Synthes were the league leaders but on Pitches A and B JNJ Turkey and GTSC were on the way to 3 points to move above them. Only a win would be good enough to see them retain top spot.

It was top of the table versus bottom of the table and if you were a betting man you would probably stake your entire pot on a home win given the results so far today. If you had done so you would have been quids in admittedly at short odds though. For Leeds Two it was another five goals conceded in the first half and this time four more after the break. De Puy Synthes 1 won it 9-0 in what was the biggest win of the day.

Liam Robinson was one of a number of early contenders for the top goalscorer award today and six goals in this fixture shot him to the top of the goalscoring charts as he moved on to 11 goals for the day. He was ably assisted by two goals from Andrew Preece. Josh Lynn was our joint 2nd top goalscorer in the 2014 tournament in Bratislava with 6 goals and he bagged his first here in Prague to complete the De Puy Synthes 1 list of scorers.

De Puy Synthes 1 remained at the top of Group A one point ahead of their two nearest rivals but now with a significant advantage in goal difference. There was now some daylight between the top 3 and the bottom 3 in the league table.
