The start of Round 4 promised to be a tough one for Ladzio FC. They scored their first goal of the tournament in the last game but missed out on their first points. They were up against a strong Skidmarks team with two wins out of 3 so far today.

Skidmarks full eurofootballfives.com record reads as debutant winners when they claimed the 2011 Valencia Fives title which was qucickly followed this up with victory in the 2012 Krakow Trophy. Only Olympic Phil Babb and Athletico Do Hollande have had such a successful introduction to eurofootballfives.com competition. Olympic Phil Babb won their first 4 tournaments (Amsterdam 2008, Algarve 2009, Prague 2010 and Budapest 2011) and Athletico Do Hollande won the Algarve Open in 2010 and 2011.

Skidmarks almost become only the second team to claim three titles in a row when they reached the 2013 Mallorca Fives Cup Final. French team Grant Thornton took the title that day. In the 2014 Budapest Fives they won their 6-team group and were looking on fine form until they came up against Argentina in the Quarter-Finals and lost 2-0. Skidmarks were on course for more success at the 2014 Bratislava Fives when they won Group A. Two close contests in the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals (both on penalties) saw them win through to the Cup Final. They finished Runners-Up to CIS Committee of Belarus who claimed their second title of the calendar year.

Their most recent performance was at the 2015 Algarve Open and they were below par compared to their usual high standards. They finished their group with 2 wins, 2 draws and just 1 defeat which was good enough for 4th (out of 6). They entered the Plate for the first time and raced to a 5-0 win over Kazakhstan FC in the Quarters before a 1-1 draw and subsequent penalty shoot-out exit in the Semi-Finals to Mavericks (who are also here in Barcelona).

Skidmarks had seemed to put that Algarve blip behind them and were now firing on all cylinders. They stormed to a 6-0 win in this one with Richard Keeley, Jamie Dewinter, Luke Hatfield (2) and Iain Congdon (2) all on target. They surged from 5th to 2nd in the table.

Telferscot FC versus Atletico Bardino was the next game on Pitch B and was a battle between the 6th and 7th placed teams respectively.

Telferscot FC had started brightly with a 2-0 win but since then neither of these two teams had been able to record a point on the board. This was a good opportunity for both teams to put that right. A win for Telferscot FC would lift them back into contention with 3 more games still to go. A win for Atletico Bardino would lift them above their opponents.

We were yet to have a draw in Group B but the two defences and the two goalkeepers ensured that was about to change. We give credit in particular to Joe Lambert (Telferscot FC) and Andrea Brunelli (Atletico Bardino) – the men between the sticks – for keeping clean sheets.

The 0-0 draw didn't overly help either team in the overall context of the group table but it was certainly better than a defeat and would perhaps act as a catalyst for future results.

The 15th game in Group B was The Spice Boys versus Bruton Black Cats. The Spice Boys were the table toppers with a maximum 9 points from 9 points. Could the Bruton Black Cats prevent them making it 12 from 12?

Bruton Black Cats had already claimed the scalp of Skidmarks and sat just 3 points behind their illustrious opponents. If they could win this one they would obviously close that gap and share the lead of Group B and help the rest of the chasing pack haul in The Spice Boys.

It was Bruton Black Cats who struck first with Thomas Harrison claiming his first goal of the tournament. It was only the second goal that The Spice Boys had conceded today.

The Spice Boys had trailed before today in the very first fixture and recovered to win 3-1. Going behind didn't seem to faze them and they recovered again to go one better and end up winning this one 4-1.

Ryan Williams retained his record of scoring in every game as he produced the equaliser. Jordan Arthur scored what the Americans would call “the go ahead goal” before Ryan Williams and Samuel Oduntan added goals #3 and #4 to round off another superb win.

It was 4 wins out of 4 for The Spice Boys – could anyone catch them?

Rapid Bosco Navas were the big losers in the Group in Round 3 as they fell from 2nd to 4th on goal difference. In Round 4 they met Prospe FC to try and recover some of those losses. It would not be easy as Prospe FC had just hit form with two wins in a row.

Although these two teams had both played in the 2014 and 2015 Barcelona Fives this would be their first head-to-head meeting.

It was Prospe FC who continued their good form and came out on top. David Pujol opened the scoring before Enrique Serrano made it 2-0 and Carlos Perez made it 3-0. Prospe FC were now on a roll with 3-0, 2-0 and 3-0 wins as they climbed the table to sit in third position.
