The
2016 Barcelona Fives was our largest single tournament
ever with a whopping 32 teams from England, France,
Ireland, Italy, Northern Ireland and Spain battling
it out for glory. We had 133 games and saw 367
goals scored on the day but just 1 overall winner
- Elcombe Old Boys!
Elcombe
Old Boys were making their fourth successive appearance
in Barcelona and had unfinished business after
their Cup Semi-Final exit on penalties last year.
This year they made a debut Cup Final and would
go to a penalty shoot-out again. This time they
were successful against fellow countrymen, The
Spice Boys. For The Spice Boys to make it all
the way to the Cup Final on debut was a great
achievement and they were so unlucky to miss out
on the ultimate title.
In
the 2016 Plate competition it was success for
Club Esportiu Llefia - last year's Cup winners
and defending champions. Some early lost points
in the group phase de-railed their Cup challenge
but they finished strongly to pick up more silverware
as they saw off Leek High Boys, 2-0, in the Plate
Final. Alfred Jimenez de Andres of Club Esportiu
Llefia who the day's top goalscorer with 11 goals
in 10 games including one in the Plate Final to
clinch the individual honours.
In
the Trophy tournament there was more success for
Spain as Bolivar defeated Giggs Boson FC to the
winners medals. As in the Cup Final, a penalty
shoot-out was needed to secure the win after a
1-1 draw in normal time. Bolivar (who played as
Equipo de Christian) last year became the first
team to successfully defend a Trophy in eurofootballfives.com
competition.
It
was a great day's competition and another fantastic
climax to a superb year of tournament action across
Europe. Our 2017 season kicks off in Budapest
in April - we hope to see you there!
