Group B began with Rapid Bosco Navas versus Bruton Black Cats.

Rapid Bosco Navas (Spa) are one of our most capped competing teams across our tour destinations and make their 11th appearance. They are third in the all-time list of caps behind GBS Reds (Cze) and DHL Prague (Cze). All their appearances have been here in Barcelona so are unsurprisingly the most capped team in the Barcelona Fives.

Bruton Black Cats, in contrast, were making their eurofootballfives.com debut – 8 years after their opponents graced these pitches for the first time. It was a lively and well-matched encounter with little to separate the two teams. Ultimately though the teams were to be divided and there was just the one goal in it – Xavi Sola the man who scored for the home team.

Goalkeeper David Garcia Gallego who had appeared in 10 of the 11 Rapid Bosco Navas appearances kept his first clean sheet of the day. It was a promising start for Bruton Black Cats against one of our former Barcelona Fives winners but, alas for them, they had no points to show for their efforts.

Group B started off with a former winner (Rapid Bosco Navas) on Pitch A. Simultaneously, we had two-times winners Skidmarks kicking off on Pitch B. The team who won the 2011 Valencia Fives and 2012 Krakow Trophy would begin against Prospe FC.

Prospe FC made their Barcelona Fives in 2014 and they started superbly. They won their first game 1-0 against the Matt-adors and never looked back. A 5-0 win over Red Cow Belgrade followed as did 3-0 and 4-1 wins over Peebles All-Stars and Fifty Shades of O'Shea to finish Group C with a 100% record. The Cup Quarter-Finals beckoned but they went down 2-0 to Liverpool Central. Last year they drew a tough group which included the eventual winners Club Esportiu Llefia who they drew 1-1 with. Their other games were 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat which saw them finish third and qualify for the Plate. The Quarter-Final was their undoing again as they went down 3-2 to Hardly Athletic.

It was Skidmarks though who got off to the perfect start in the 2016 Barcelona Fives as goals from Richard Keeley and Ashley Britten helped them on their way to a 2-0 win.

On Pitch C we would have The Spice Boys (Eng) versus Atletico Bardino (Ita). The Spice Boys just missed out on last year's tournament as their enquiry came just after the 2015 Barcelona sold out. So, we are grateful they kept the faith and joined us here for the 2016 edition.

Atletico Bardino became the first team to represent Italy at the Barcelona Fives (although we have had Italian players playing for other teams) so we offered a hearty “benvenuto” to them.

It was a great start for the Italian team as they struck the first blow in this fixture. Luca Lombardo was the man to score their first goal in eurofootballfives.com competition.

The goal sparked The Spice Boys into action as Ryan Williams levelled the game up at 1-1. The Spice Boys then turned it around totally as they went 2-1 up with a Jordan Arthur strike. The comeback was complete when Jordan Arthur bagged his second to secure a 3-1 win.

Last but not least in Group B, it was Telferscot FC (Eng) versus Ladzio FC (Eng) on Pitch D. Both teams were on debut and so they had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Let the games commence……

It was Telferscot FC who made their mark first. Richard Brocklesbury had the honour of scoring Telferscot FC's first goal in European competition – one for the record books. He was joined in the goalscoring stakes soon after by Mark Titcombe whose goal put the game safe at 2-0.

It was just the start Telferscot FC would have wished for. For Ladzio FC, there was still plenty of time in the group phase to kickstart their Barcelona Fives campaign.
