The first final of the day would see Colden Hommodore versus Freshers FC. These two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

Let's look at the two teams records:

Colden Hommodore (Hol)

Best appearance to date: Debut

Record today: Played 6, Won 3, Drawn 2, Lost 1.

Goal difference today: 11-5

Current unbeaten run: 3 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Alex Antonelli (4)

Clean sheets: 3

Freshers FC (Eng)

Best appearance to date: Cup QF 2015 Barcelona Fives / Plate Runners-Up, 2018 Gdansk Tournament

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 0, Lost 2.

Goal difference today: 9-7

Current unbeaten run: 3 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Joe Trigg (3), Toby Porter (3)

Clean sheets: 1

Freshers FC had some experience of a Plate Final in our tournaments. At the 2018 Gdansk Tournament they were so close to success at this equivalent stage. They lost 3-1 to FC Shark so would be determined to avenge that defeat and lift the trophy this time.

If you look at the two teams record's today there was very little between them. Statistically, Freshers FC had more wins but Colden Hommodore had scored a couple more and conceded a couple less. This would come down to who performed best over the next two halves of football.

On the field of play it was not as tight as we had expected. Toby Porter gave Freshers FC the lead before Joe Trigg made it 2-0 and then 3-0. It was only half-time. With the wind in their sails, Freshers FC came forward in wave after wave of attack. Colden Hommodore were a spent force physically and were visibly more tired than their opponents. They were able to limit the damage in the second half – Dan Murphy made it 4-0 to Freshers FC. At the other end they were unable to lay a glove on their opponents as Freshers FC completed a second successive clean sheet in the second half.

The final score was 4-0 to Freshers FC and they had been full value for the win in this Plate Final.

We'd like to thank Colden Hommordore for attending and offer our commiserations for the Final. They could not have come much closer to glory – it was perhaps one game too far for them. They earned runners-up medals in the presentation to cushion the blow. We hope they will join us again next summer.

Many congratulations to our winners – Freshers FC. What a fantastic performance and a great way to win their first silverware with us. Rumours are they might be joining us in Portugal next year and we very much look forward to seeing the lads again then.
