We wish you a warm welcome to the Netherlands and the fourth edition of the Amsterdam Sixes since its debut in Amsterdam back in July 2017. This current edition had twice been postponed from 2020 to 2021 and again to 2022 so we were champing at the bit to get started.

This tournament has been hugely successful and sold out every year. The roll call of winners, with the Cup Final results, reads:

2017: Toros (Hol) 1-1 TEDO3 (Hol). Toros won 4-3 on penalties.

2018: CIS Committee (Blr) 3-0 Cheesecake FC (Eng)

2019: Kavlow (Eng) 5-2 ZVC Indoor Gent (Bel)

Today we had teams representing England, France, the Netherlands and Portugal. Who would be holding the coveted trophy aloft at around 18.00 this afternoon?

The first two challengers to get us underway in Group A on Pitch 4 this year would be Colden Hommodore (Hol) versus Whiteley FC (Eng). It turned out to be a great start for the Dutch team as they raced into a 2-0 half-time lead. Alex Antonelli got them off to a flyer before Dara O'Farrell opened his personal account. Dara O'Farrell extended the lead to 3-0 after break to complete a solid opening victory. It was a disappointing start for Whiteley FC but they had time on their side to get their campaign back on track.

The first phase of the 2022 Amsterdam Fives would be decided on a group basis. There was scheduled to be two groups with 6 teams in each group. The teams finishing 1st and 2nd in each group would progress to the Cup competition. This would be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 3rd and 4th in each group would progress to the Plate competition. This would be played as a knock-out phase with Semi-Finals and Final. The teams finishing 5th and 6th in each group would be eliminated at this stage.

Game 2 of Group A was London French FC (Fra) versus FC Kicks (Hol). London French FC were on debut so this was our first look at them. FC Kicks were the winners of our Fives tournament last weekend (more on that later).

It turned out to be a sensational start for London French FC as a goal in each half from Marcos Guijarro Navas and Cedric Mercier gave them a superb opening win, 2-0.

The next two teams to take the field in Group A were Humble Goats (Hol) and Dolce and Lallana (Eng).

Humble Goats were a late replacement for a team who regrettably were unable to make the tournament. We are grateful to Humble Goats for stepping in at the last minute to keep Group A at 6-teams. Could this be a Denmark at the 1992 European Championship moment for Humble Goats? Denmark were not supposed to be in Euro 92 but they qualified after Yugoslavia were disqualified due to warfare in their country. Not only did Denmark enter the tournament but they went on to win it. An omen for Humble Goats?

They started off well as Jazz Prins gave Humble Goats a first half lead. Dolce and Lallana had not read the script though as Thomas Forster equalised. It was 1-1 at half-time. In the second half it was Dolce and Lallana who forged ahead and it was Thomas Forster again with the goal. He went on to complete a fine hat-trick and secure a great 3-1 win for the English team.
