Murder on Zidane's Floor (Hol)

Group B began with Real Sosobad (Hol) taking on Cream of the South (Eng).

Cream of the South were on debut so we would get our first look at them on the field of play very soon. Real Sosobad were making their debut with us only last week at the 2022 Amsterdam Fives. They lost their opening fixture to the eventual runners-up (Sporting Armada) 2-0 before a last minute equalizer saw them pick up their first point in a 1-1 draw against Red Cow Belgrade. A 3-0 win over NiB Catenaccio preceded a 5-2 defeat to the eventual champions (FC Kicks). Their group campaign finished with a 3-2 loss to Columbia's Finest FC. It meant they finished 5 th and were eliminated before the knockout phase.

They would naturally hope for a change of fortunes switching from the small 5-a-side field to the larger 6-a-side field but they found themselves a goal down early on as Jesal Pankhania opened the scoring for Cream of the South. At the start of the second half Cream of the South extended that lead to 2-0 with Alberto Pankhania on target.

Real Sosobad's hopes were raised when Alex Kahl turned in a rebound off the post to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Alas for the home side though, it merely proved to be a consolation.

Next up was RAF versus Freshers FC as Portugal met England. Both of these teams were regulars on our circuit with RAF making their second appearance of the summer.

They competed at the 2022 Lisbon Tournament with two teams competing as RAF1 and RAF2. RAF1 were impeccable in the group phase with a 100% record of 4 wins out of 4 (including a win over ZVC Indoor Gent – our runners-up here in 2019). They went through the group phase without conceding. In the Cup Quarter-Finals they met The Basemen and twice recovered from a goal down to force a penalty shoot-out but went out on spot kicks. The RAF2 team won 3 out of 4 group games to also qualify for the Cup. They defeated Montanelas FC 4-2 in the QF and drew 2-2 with Galacticos in the SF but managed to win the shootout to set up a Cup Final against CDAL. CDAL were just too good on the day and took the title 2-0 in the final.

The Portuguese team made a fast start here in Amsterdam going 2-0 up in the first half. Tiago Nogueira scored twice to put his team in the driving seat. Ricardo Pacheco, RAF goalkeeper, was called into action before the break to make a vital save. The second half was characterized by Freshers FC territory and possession but RAF managed to see the game out without conceding. Final score, 2-0.

So, without further ado we headed on to game 3 of Group B which was England versus the Netherlands for the second time in Round 1. It was Ball Bashers (Eng) against Murder on Zidane's Floor (Hol). The former were on debut, and as such were an unknown quantity, and so they had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Let the games commence……

Ball Bashers certainly made their mark in the first half and it was an impressive start to life in eurofootballfives.com competition. Mati Ortiz had the honour of scoring their first goal in Europe to make it 1-0 before Ben Williams opened his personal account for the day to make it 2-0.

So far so good at half-time for Ball Bashers. The second half saw them extend their lead to 3-0 with an Angus Murray strike. Defensively they were sound too with a clean sheet to boot. Ball Bashers had announced themselves in style with a 3-0 win.
