We
were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition
and we were guaranteed just one thing – an English
winner. England made up all 4 semi-finalists of
the Plate competition.
The
first semi-final would be contested by Red Cow
Belgrade and Milstead.
Red
Cow Belgrade were experienced in our Plate competition
and had 3 previous Plate Semi-Final appearances.
At the 2014 Barcelona Fives and 2016 Riga Tournament
they won their semi-finals en route to picking
up runners-up medals both times. At the 2018 Gdansk
Tournament they lost 1-0 to FC Shark at this stage.
They were also runners-up in our Trophy competition
at the 2015 Lisbon Tournament giving them a 75%
success rate at the semi-final stage of our events.
Could they boost that to 80% and give them a third
shot at picking up a Plate trophy in our tournaments?
It
was their opponents Milstead, who were on debut,
that hit the front in this fixture thanks to Jacob
Mantel's second goal of the day. Tom Goyski hit
back for Red Cow Belgrade to level the tie off
at 1-1. However, they were not level for long
as Jacob Mantel scored his second of the half
to give Milstead a vital 2-1 lead at half-time.
After
the break it got even better for Milstead as Edouard
Hallam extended the lead to 3-1 and the debutants
had one foot in the final. Red Cow Belgrade showed
their powers of recovery again as Tom Goyski bagged
his second of the match but alas for him and his
team it proved to be too little too late as Red
Cow Belgrade exited the tournament. Final score,
2-3.
