Group B began with Groove Armada taking on Atletico Armada.

The game was a derby match between the two touring sister squads. It is not often teams from the same club meet in eurofootballfives competition but when they do it often has a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates.

This game was played in good spirit and at the end of the game there was one team who would certainly be in better spirits than the other. That team would be Atletico Armada. The game proved to be a little one-sided in their favour with two goals before the break and three goals afterwards as they chalked up a superb 5-0 opening win.

Dan Hickling got the ball rolling with the opener before Dean Stockdale put them in a commanding position at half-time. Ben Renshaw added a third before Dean Stockdale went on to complete his hat-trick. Atletico Armada were our early pace setters.

Next up was Minisernal versus Spider Mans & Eagle as the Netherlands met England.

Spider Mans & Eagle (Eng) were the most experienced team in the draw as they were making eurofootballfives.com appearance #13 in Amsterdam. Their most recent appearance was the 2020 Warsaw Tournament – our sole event that year due to the pandemic. They opened up with a 3-1 defeat to FC Foreigntina before drawing 1-1 with Red Cow Belgrade. Another 1-1 draw with Dragon Balls preceded a 1-0 win over FC Maroon. Despite just the one defeat they finished third in Group B. They qualified for the Plate competition where they met Boca Seniors Warsaw in the Semi-finals. A narrow 1-0 loss saw them exit the competition.

It was a slow start for the team this year as they quickly found themselves 2-0 down due to goals from Abdul Laouar and Christopher Eteka. A Ryan Stevens strike before half-time gave them hope for the second half. After the break Spider Mans & Eagle moved through the gears as Ryan Stevens levelled the game at 2-2. Liam Stevens made it 3-2 and then 4-2 before a Christopher Eteka goal reduced the deficit to 4-3 for a potentially nervous finish. Ryan Stevens hat-trick goal though sealed a thrilling 5-3 victory for the travelling team.

So, without further ado we headed on to game 3 of Group B which was the Netherlands versus England for a second successive game. It was Amsterdam Barbarians (Hol) against Milstead (Eng). Both teams were on debut, and as such were an unknown quantity, and so they had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Let the games commence……

Both teams painted a good picture of themselves in the first half and they were quite evenly matched. There was just the one goal to separate the two teams as the local team took a narrow lead into the half-time change of ends. Redwan Amellal set them on their way before Max Sudell equalised with his team's first goal in Europe. Yassin Amellal restored the lead for the home time though.

Staring at defeat at half-time, but defeat averted at full-time for Milstead. In the second half Harry Brown opened his personal account and levelled the tie at 2-2. There was to be no further goals as the teams had to settle for a draw.

It was a point each for the two teams. Only time would tell if this was one point gained or two points dropped.
