The
final team to get their campaign underway on
Pitch 1 was Red Cow Belgrade. They were the
second most experienced team in the line-up
today as they embarked on their 11 th tour with
us.
Their
most recent performance was at the 2020 Warsaw
Tournament. They made a solid start to the tournament
with a 0-0 draw against Dragon Balls and a 1-1
draw against Spider Mans & Eagle (appearing
in Group B today). They then suffered two narrow
defeats (both 2-1) at the hands (or feet) of
FC Foreigntina and FC Maroon. Incredibly they
finished bottom of the table with just a -2
goal difference and were eliminated which seemed
particularly harsh. If they could have turned
just one defeat into a draw or one draw into
a win they would have gone through to the knockout
phase. Fine margins.
They
got off to a good start here in Amsterdam as
they opened up a 1-0 lead in the opening period.
Joe Howitt has been their top scorer in European
competition over the years and he was on target
to give them the lead today. For much of the
second half it looked like that goal could well
be enough to earn all 3 points for the English
team. However, Real Sosobad had other ideas
as Adam Ess scored right at the death to make
it 1-1. Red Cow Belgrade would no doubt see
this as 2 points dropped rather than a point
gained.
