Amsterdam Barbarians and Groove Armada kicked off Round 4. The two teams sat in second and third place in the table. An Amsterdam Barbarians win would see them leapfrog Atletico Armada at the top of the table. A Groove Armada win would make it an Armada 1-2 at the top of Group B with both teams on 9 points (Atletico Armada would have a game in hand).

Amsterdam Barbarians were unbeaten today and they were the spanner in the Armada works. With 7 points from 9, the Dutch team were soon to make it 3 wins on the bounce. The deadlock was broken by Zakaria Enn with his first goal of the tournament. Mattia Mantovani's goal would give the Barbarians a cushion going into the second half.

The direction of travel continued in the second period as Yassin Amellal kept up his remarkable record of scoring in every game. Redwan Amellal made it 4-0 before Luca Barbet made it 5-0. 5 goals, 5 different scorers and a 5* performance from Amsterdam Barbarians.

The next game of Round 4 was Minisernal versus Milstead. Currently these two teams sat outside the knockout qualification places but a victory here would go a long way towards correcting that issue. A Milstead win would see them climb a point above Spider Mans & Eagle and into fourth. A Minisernal win would see them join Spider Mans on 3 points but that would only be good enough for fifth due to goal difference….but they would be back in the mix. A draw would not be much good for either side.

You felt things were beginning to slip away from Minisernal a little bit. Two battling performances had seen 5-3 defeats in Rounds 1 & 2 but last time they had a confidence crushing 9-3 defeat albeit to the league leaders. This was Milstead's chance to get a first European win on the board and it was an opportunity they grabbed with both hands.

Crucially, Milstead grabbed the opening goal of the game through Edouard Hallam. He added another to give the English team a two goal advantage at the break. After the change of ends they extended their lead further with Jacob Mantel putting his name in the scorer's book. Their must have been palpitations when Animesh Landge pulled a goal back to 3-1. However, Milstead re-asserted their three goal lead wih Eddie Neath scoring the fourth. Full-time, 4-1.

To conclude Round 4 we had Atletico Armada versus Spider Mans & Eagle. There had been a number of meetings between these two groups over the last 4 years.

Sporting Armada 6-0 Spider Mans 1s

Spider Mans Twos 1-6 Atletico Armada

Atletico Armada 0-3 Spider Mans 5hitters

Sporting Armada 5-1 Spider Mans Twos

Atletico Armada 4-3 Spider Mans 1s

Spider Mans & Eagle 1-2 Groove Armada

Armada had won 5 of the 6 encounters between the various squads to date and Atletico Armada were our current league leaders were on a 100% record having just won 9-3. It was looking ominous for Spider Mans who had just lost two on the bounce.

However, at the 2019 Lisbon Tournament the two teams were separated in the Group A table by just 1 point after 6 group games. This was a more closely matched game than some of the results above but Atletico Armada did have the edge. James Young scored a first of the tournament before Ben Renshaw gave them a 2-0 lead at the break.

In the second half Ryan Stevens pulled a goal back for Spider Mans & Eagle – his seventh of the day – but it would not be enough to earn his team a point. Atletico Armada had enough in the tank to see out a 2-1 win and keep that 100% run going. They were now assured of Cup qualification – well done to them.
