Group C was really hotting up as we entered Round 4. Each team had just two games left to stake their claim for the Cup or the Plate. Up first was La Morte O I Gladioli (Hol) and Municipality of Raanana (Isr).

La Morte O I Gladioli were currently in sixth position and their hopes of reaching the Cup seemed slim. However, if they could finish as high up the table as they could then secure a theoretically easier Quarter-Final tie and of course build up some confidence.

Municipality of Raanana were in a much stronger position. Two wins for them would see them reach 10 points and guarantee a spot in the Cup. We were treated to a relatively serene first half with Municipality of Raanana opening up a 2-1 lead. We went goal crazy in the second half. In the end we had the joint second highest scoring game of the entire tournament.

It was the team from Israel who racked up their second victory of the tournament. They won it 6-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Avinoam Bidani plus goals from Guy Sofer, Oren Tavor and Eliraz Kahlon.

The men to score for La Morte O I Gladioli were Victor Loos and Riemer Van De Velde (x2). The Cup was no longer mathematically possible for them.

How would Municipality of Raanana's win effect the other teams at the top? It meant the team from Israel moved up to second and knocked Cheesefake down to fourth. Cheesefake could go joint second with a win of their own. They took on Scotty Doesn't Know.

Scotty Doesn't Know had to win their final two games to move on to 7 points but that would probably not be enough to reach the Cup even if they did finish third. Their position was pretty much the same as La Morte O I Gladioli faced in the previous match.

Since opening game victory Cheesefake had picked up 1 point from a possible 6. They roared back to winning ways here and in emphatic style. They hit Scotty Doesn't Know for six – quite literally. In what was Cheesefake's biggest eurofootballfives.com win they moved up two spaces in the table. They were sent on their way with a Jelte Huizing hat-trick, a brace from Nicholas “Jess” Bromolow and a strike from James Rees. Matt Carpenter got the Scotty Doesn't Know goal. Alas or him and his team it was in a losing cause. Final score, 1-6.

Scotty Doesn't Know's slim hopes of Cup qualification were over. Cheesefake's were very much alive.

To complete Round 4 we had Skidmarks versus FC Fylde Old Boys A. Despite 3 wins on the bounce, Skidmarks had seen Municipality of Raanana and Cheesefake both move within 2 points of them. They could not relax for a moment.

FC Fylde Old Boys A had started Round 2 in second position. The wins for Municipality of Raanana and Cheesefake had seen them drop to fourth. A win could see them jump back above those teams and share top position with Skidmarks. It would leave the top four separated by just 2 points going into the final round. If they lost, FC Fylde would have work to do in Round 5.

In what was a very close and evenly matched encounter it was Skidmarks who took the lead. Luke Hatfield added to his tally for the day to make it 1-0 for his team. It proved to be the only goal of the game as Paul Mulvey kept his second clean sheet of the tournament.

In the previous game, Skidmarks reached the landmark of 100 goals in the group phase of our tournaments. With victory here they broke through the 100 points barrier in the group phase of our tournaments. The win also secured Cup qualification and meant they would be Group C champions whatever happened in Round 5. It had been a good morning's work.

FC Fylde Old Boys A could still reach the Cup but their fate was no longer in their own hands.
