After 51 games of football in the Veterans competition we only had one more to play - The 2018 Algarve Veterans Tournament Cup Final.

What a Cup Final we had in prospect! We had two teams who had both excelled throughout the day. The two teams;

FC Miracle: Played 7, won 5, drawn 1, lost 1. They had scored 13 goals along the way and conceded just 3. They boasted the joint-tournament top scorer, Zsoltan Toth, with 8 goals. They were looking for their second eurofootballfives.com title after winning the 2012 Valencia Fives.

Mini FC: Played 7, won 6, drawn 1, lost 0. They had scored 15 goals and conceded just 1. They were also looking to win their second eurofootballfives.com title after winning the 2015 Algarve Veterans title.

As you can see there was really not much in it. The one thing to note is that these two teams had met at the very start of Group A and on that occasion it was Mini FC who emerged victorious, 2-1. It was the only goal that Mini FC had conceded all day and the only game that FC Miracle had lost all day.

The game was underway and the two teams looked just as evenly matched on the pitch as they did on paper. The two teams were very similar in terms of quality and it looked like this Cup Final would be decided by whoever could take their chances when they came along. The two teams reached half-time and we were still level at 0-0.

It was, however, an unfortunate error that changed the course of the game in the second half. From a corner for Mini FC, the ball was fizzed across the FC Miracle penalty area and Alexey Laszlo instinctively stuck out a leg to block the cross but saw the ball deflect into the back of his own net. A terrible blow for Alexey and the whole FC Miracle team.

FC Miracle did everything they could to get back into it but Mini FC were resolute in defence. As FC Miracle poured forward in search of an equalizer they inevitable left gaps at the back and Mini FC had the quality to take advantage. Binlo's third goal of the tournament made it 2-0 to Mini FC and with that they had secured victory.

We offer our commiserations to FC Miracle who we thought could be the second team to win both an Open Age and Veterans title in our tournaments. There was some personal consolation for Zsoltan Toth who picked up the golden boot award which he shared with FC Mahou's Mike Brandon. Both men scored 8 goals each.

Congratulations to Mini FC – it was a great day's performance! They become the first team to win a second eurofootballfives.com Veterans Tournament title. The Veterans Tournaments for 2019 will be hosted in Alicante (15th June) and a second destination yet to be confirmed (21 st September weekend) and we hope you can all join us next year.
