Round
4 of Group A began with Los Amblos versus FC Miracle.
This was fifth position versus fourth position
at the start of play.
Los
Amblos debuted at the 2016 Lisbon Veterans Tournament
and it was quite a successful one. In the group
phase they finished joint third (fourth on goal
difference) as a last match 0-0 draw prevented
them taking third place outright. They qualified
for the Plate and Semi-Final success ensued as
they beat Mavericks 1-0. They were to collect
Runners-Up medals in the presentation as they
were defeated 2-0 by Pioes in the Plate Final.
At
the 2017 Mallorca Veterans Tournament they produced
a stronger group performance with 3 wins, 1 draw
and just the 1 defeat as they secured 10 points
and second place in Group B. The only downside
of this was that they drew a rampant FC Mahou
in the Cup Semi-Finals. FC Mahou were on fire
that day and defeated Crabtree Amblers (now Los
Amblos).
Zoltan
Toth scored in the opening game and he was on
target again here in Round 4. He scored not once
but twice to put the Hungarian team in the ascendency.
Ade Chester top-scored for his team in Mallorca
and he was off the mark for Los Amblos in the
Algarve as he pulled it back to 2-1. FC Miracle
had enough in the tank though to see out the 2-1
win.
Bombeiros
Faro versus Mini FC was the next scheduled game.
As we now knew, Bombeiros Faro were not here so
Mini FC collected a 3-0 walkover.
WEEDS
Colts were back in action when they entertained
The Warriors. WEEDS Colts were currently well
placed in second position but they had just lost
4-0 so was this a good time for The Warriors to
meet them?
This
was a re-match of Group B, Game 7 of the 2017
Mallorca Veterans Tournament when WEEDS Colts
defeated The Warriors 1-0 (Ian Holmes goal). That
2017 game was a kind of re-match of a 2016 Lisbon
Tournament encounter when The Warriors defeated
a combined WEEDS team. In 2016, The Warriors were
victorious also 1-0 with a goal from James Newton.
So, 1 win each over the years – who would take
the 3 points in 2018?
Today
the spoils went to WEEDS Colts in what was a third
successive 1-0 result between the two teams. Ian
Holmes and James Newton were both in their respective
line-ups today but this time the match winner
was Kelvinardo. Kelvin Franklin was the man with
the goal that recorded WEEDS Colts third win in
four games as they tightened their grip on second
place in the table.
