Group
A, Round 3 began with a false start – it was due
to be Bombeiros Faro versus Chorltonians Vets.
The Portuguese team's no show afforded Chorltonians
Vets a 3-0 walkover and a chance to rest those
legs and lungs for Round 4.
Up
next on the field was Los Amblos versus The Warriors.
A quick look at the league table suggested, although
early in the day, both teams needed a win. Los
Amblos had 1 point from 6 and The Warriors 0 from
3. Both had been handed tough early fixtures though.
These
two teams had met before just 12 months ago at
the 2017 Mallorca Veterans Tournament. They met
in their respective final fixtures of Group B
– it was a closely fought game which saw Los Amblos
(playing as Crabtree Amblers) win 1-0. Ade Chester
was the man on target last year. He was in the
line-up again this year, could he bring home 3
more points?
Ade
Chester couldn't find the net here in 2018 but
Mike “Ramone” Petevinos could as he put Los Amblos
ahead. The Warriors were not to be beaten this
time though as James Newton levelled thing up.
The game finished 1-1 as the teams inched up the
table.
To
complete Round 3 was WEEDS Colts versus Mini FC.
It was a battle between the top two teams who
both boasted the maximum 6 points thus far.
Mini
FC were making their fourth eurofootballfives.com
appearance. The debuted at the 2014 Algarve Open
when they won 4 games and drew 1 game to finish
top of Group B. They were then defeated 2-1 in
the Cup Semi-Finals by the eventual winners Stand
Cristina.
In
2015 came their victory in the Algarve Veterans
Tournament (4 wins out of 5 in Group A) plus a
3-1 Cup Semi-Final and a penalty shoot-out Cup
Final win. With our Vets event moving to Lisbon
in 2016, Mini FC played in the Open Age event.
They were equally as successful in the early stages
winning Group A with 10 points from a possible
12. The Cup competition was played in a second
group phase in 2016 where 2 wins and 2 defeats
saw them finish 3 rd overall.
Mini
FC seemed to raise their game to meet the top
of the table challenge. The game proved to be
a touch one sided with Mini FC dominant from the
moment Binlo gave them the lead. Pedro then made
it 2-0 and 3-0 before To-ze put the finishing
touch on a 4-0 victory.
