20
teams began the day searching for glory in the
2010 Algarve Open. 18 teams chances had ended,
2 were one game away from glory. Those teams were
Athletico Do Hollande and FC Seagrave.
FC
Seagrave had the youngest squad of the day and
had achieved much in reaching this stage. They
had a really big ask to take on the Dutch who
had a larger squad as well so more chance to rotate
their players through the day. In the end, it
proved one game too far for the young English
team as Athletico Do Hollande proved their class
with shades of their Quarter-Final win over Portugal's
Olhanense.
Jerrel
Fraenk with his eight goal of the day put them
1-0 up and they never looked back. John Hanst
made it 2-0 and then Giorgio Fraenk made it 3-0
all before half-time. FC Seagrave continued to
battle but their task was an uneviable one. Jerrel
Fraenk started the second half as he did the first
when he made it 4-0 and Youssef El Ouasghiri's
4 th of the competition made it 5-0. The referee
blew the final whistle to spare FC Seagrave further
pain.
We
had our winners of the 2010 Algarve Open – Athletico
Do Hollande. Worthy winners they were too. Please
spare a thought for FC Seagrave who'd had a fantastic
day and performed so well throughout the tournament.
With age on their side there is every chance they'll
win a eurofootballfives.com event at some stage.
The
win was a first victory for a Dutch team in eurofootballfives.com
tournaments at the third time of asking after
Holland sides had failed to win on home soil in
the 2008 and 2009 Amsterdam Fives. The top goalscorer
prize also saw success for Athletico Do Hollande
as Jerrel Fraenk topped the charts with 9 goals
in 7 games over the tournament. Congratulations
to him on a personal basis too.
Our
congratulations to all the teams who participated
in what was a great day's competition. We had
goals, we had sunshine, we had a great spirit
and on Saturday night (as well as most of the
weekend) we had plenty of Sagres and Superbock!
We look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
