With Askeaton FC and Olhanense holding the top two positions the next game was vital for the chasing teams such as Burussia Forsyth and Pete's Pink Pirates to get themselves in contention. A tight goal less first half was played out before the defining moment of the game in the second period as Ryan Jackson scored the only goal of the game and with it Pete's Pink Pirates first win and first three points to boot.

Game 7 in Group A was a mouth-watering prospect as the two teams at the top, both with 100% records came together to do battle. Askeaton FC of Ireland and Olhanense of Portugal could have settled for a draw which would have virtually guaranteed them both to get through. There was no settling for a point though from either side. In a game worthy of being a knock-out fixture it was Askeaton FC who scored first taking a 1-0 lead into the turnaround through Gary Noonan. Amazingly, it was the fifth consecutive half they'd won 1-0. There was not to be a 6 th though as the Olhanense defence held firm. Patrick Noonan's 3 rd consecutive clean sheet though meant it did not matter and the Irish claimed win number 3 to keep their 100% record in tact. The Group A title was now theirs for the taking. Olhanense's Cup challenge would be taken to their final game.

Whiteley VII met Pete's Pink Pirates in game 8 and the latter, who tasted victory in their last game, showed no signs of letting this new found form slip. Thomas George bagged a brace in a 2-0 victory which saw them move on to 6 points. It was a tough result for Whiteley VII who continued to seek their first win of the day. Although Pete's Pink Pirates were on 6 points they could not make the Cup due to the fact that Burussia Forsyth and Olhanense came head-to-head in the next game and no matter what result it would mean the Pirates would miss out and have to settle for the Plate.

The equation for Olhanense was simple – don't lose. Even if they did they had a bit of a cushion when it came to goal difference as Burussia Forsyth would need to win by 4 clear goals to make it into 2 nd place. The first half was going the way of the English and they forged a 2-1 lead by half-time. The goals included a howler from the Olhanense keeper (think Rene Higuita versus Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup for Roger Milla's 2 nd goal) when he dribbled out close to the half-way line only to be dispossessed and leave a vacant net for Burussia to score. Burussia Forsyth were buoyed by this and opened up a 4-1 lead but ultimately finishing one goal short of their target. It was a great effort and a superb win nevertheless.

The final game of Group A could have been considered a formality as top played bottom but Whiteley VII threw a cat amongst the pigeons when Simon Stores became the first man of the day to score past Patrick Noonan and the teams reached the interval locked at 1-1. Donal Kehoe scored the goal for Askeaton FC. The Irish team had already secured the Group A title but had the opportunity to be the only team on the day to finish their group with 12 points. That 100% record was achieved when Tom Jennings 3 rd in 4 games earned his side a 2-1 success. It was a great effort for Whiteley FC surely giving their confidence a boost before the Wooden Spoon playoff.
