The
Wooden Spoon Competition saw the four 5th placed
teams come head-to-head in, what is also sometimes
dubbed as, the battle for 17th place. The first
Semi-Final would be contested by Triple D and
Chase Terrace Rangers. Now was the opportunity
to put the disappointments of the group phase
behind them and kick on for some European glory
– after all, all you have to do when back home
is tell your mates you played in a European final.
Triple
D and Chase Terrace Rangers were locked at 0-0
at half-time and full-time. We therefore entered
Golden Goal extra time which was 0-0 at half-time
and then 0-0 at full-time. We moved on to the
day's first and only penalty shoot-out. Always
fun for those watching but nerve-racking for those
involved.
The
early advantage was that of Triple D and after
two penalties each they led 2-1. The third round
of penalties saw Triple D miss and Chase Terrace
Rangers convert to make it 2-2 and take us into
sudden death. A Triple D miss gave Chase Terrace
Rangers a shot at the final and it was an opportunity
they took full advantage of. Chase Terrace Rangers
were in the final, 3-2 on penalties.
