The Wooden Spoon Competition saw the four 5th placed teams come head-to-head in, what is also sometimes dubbed as, the battle for 17th place. The first Semi-Final would be contested by Triple D and Chase Terrace Rangers. Now was the opportunity to put the disappointments of the group phase behind them and kick on for some European glory – after all, all you have to do when back home is tell your mates you played in a European final.

Triple D and Chase Terrace Rangers were locked at 0-0 at half-time and full-time. We therefore entered Golden Goal extra time which was 0-0 at half-time and then 0-0 at full-time. We moved on to the day's first and only penalty shoot-out. Always fun for those watching but nerve-racking for those involved.

The early advantage was that of Triple D and after two penalties each they led 2-1. The third round of penalties saw Triple D miss and Chase Terrace Rangers convert to make it 2-2 and take us into sudden death. A Triple D miss gave Chase Terrace Rangers a shot at the final and it was an opportunity they took full advantage of. Chase Terrace Rangers were in the final, 3-2 on penalties.

The second Wooden Spoon Semi-Final was a non-starter as Lacey Green FC had lost two players to injury in the group stage and with a further hamstring injury after the lunch break were down to just 3 fit players. They discussed continuing on but in the end had no option but to throw in the towel on what was an unfortunate day for them and we wish their injured players a speedy recovery. It meant Karma FC had a bye into the Wooden Spoon Final.
