Spain's Atiko Team kicked off Group D against Kings Old Boys. The Spanish team were making their first appearance in our tournaments but Kings Old Boys were experienced in our events.

Kings Old Boys began their eurofootballfives adventure in the 2009 Barca Fives making the Plate Semi-Finals and along the way proved they are an unusual English team – they won a penalty shoot-out! In the 2010 Amsterdam Fives they proved to be a stronger outfit and made it through to the Cup Semi-Finals where they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to eventual champions Goldsmith Williams. A return to Barcelona in April 2011 saw another Cup qualification thanks to an impressive display in the Group stage. Their quest was ended in the Quarter-Finals when a Golden Goal by local team Sesimbassa ended their title hopes. Will it be third time lucky in Spain for Kings Old Boys to go all the way?

With the opening fixture of Group D underway the two teams were proving evenly matched and in a keenly contested first half the two teams entered the break at 1-1. For Kings Old Boys a Paul Veasey goal got them up and running but it was cancelled out by Raul (not the one of Real Madrid fame!). In the second half we were to witness athird and decisive goal which went to Atiko Team's Ramon. Final score, 2-1.

Lacey Green FC and Shortest In The Shower were scheduled to meet in Game 2 of Group D. Lacey Green FC's previous appearance in our tournaments saw them reach the Cup Semi-Finals before a narrow 1-0 defeat to eventual winners Anglo Knights.

They began this campaign against Shortest In The Shower and quickly found themselves a goal down in the first half when Steven Bennett scored his team's first European goal. In the second half Lacey Green FC opened their account when Ryan Maguire found the back of the net. The goal was not enough to earn a point though due to Jordan Guthrie rounding off the scoring. Shortest In The Shower were victorious by 2 goals to 1.

Ain't Got A Clue were making their second eurofootballfives appearance in Valencia. They produced a solid display first time round in the 2008 Krakow Trophy where they finished 3 rd in their group behind the defending champions and the eventual runners-up. You could say they drew the group of death. In the Plate they went out in the Semi-Finals to Shock Soc 0.5 on penalties. It's great to see them back and we look forward to see how they get on. They would meet Atiko Team who already had a win under their belts.

Maybe it was the fact that Atiko Team had already warmed up that they caught their opponents a little cold or it could have been a hangover or two in the Aint Got A Clue ranks. Either way, Atiko Team took advantage and quickly established a 3-0 lead by half-time and that became 5-1 by full-time. There was a double for Santi, a double for Ramon and a first tournament goal for Javi. Dave Williams had something to personally celebrate for Aint Got A Clue but it was merely a consolation.

Kings Old Boys and Lacey Green FC both suffered narrow opening game defeats by the same score of 2-1. When they met in Game 4 of Group D it was an opportunity to put defeat behind them and register their first points of the tournament.

It was Kings Old Boys who took that early opportunity as Paul Veasey scored for the second consecutive game and it was a goal that afforded his team a 1-0 lead by the break. In the second half they extended the lead thanks to Alan Jones and 2-0 was a sufficient lead to take all 3 points. It was a good win for Kings Old Boys and with two games to go they were well positioned on the tails of the leaders.

For Lacey Green it was a big disappointment but we had seen in Group C Bridge House follow two defeats with two wins. Lacey Green would need to do the same.

The game that would take us to the half-way stage of Group D was Shortest In The Shower versus Aint Got A Clue. The former came into the game on the back of victory and the latter on the back of defeat so the form book would suggest a home win. The form book is often wildly off the mark but not on this occasion.

Arthur Livesey opened the scoring for Shortest In The Shower and from there they did not look back. A double from Steven Bennett, a goal for Jordan Guthrie and a second strike for Livesey ensured a 5-0 victory. It was proving to be a tough morning for the Aint Got A Clue squad.

The size of the victory was also important for Shortest In The Shower as it meant they led Group D courtesy of goal difference.
