Spain's
Atiko Team kicked off Group D against Kings Old
Boys. The Spanish team were making their first
appearance in our tournaments but Kings Old Boys
were experienced in our events.
Kings
Old Boys began their eurofootballfives adventure
in the 2009 Barca Fives making the Plate Semi-Finals
and along the way proved they are an unusual English
team – they won a penalty shoot-out! In the 2010
Amsterdam Fives they proved to be a stronger outfit
and made it through to the Cup Semi-Finals where
they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to eventual champions
Goldsmith Williams. A return to Barcelona in April
2011 saw another Cup qualification thanks to an
impressive display in the Group stage. Their quest
was ended in the Quarter-Finals when a Golden
Goal by local team Sesimbassa ended their title
hopes. Will it be third time lucky in Spain for
Kings Old Boys to go all the way?
With the opening fixture
of Group D underway the two teams were proving
evenly matched and in a keenly contested first
half the two teams entered the break at 1-1. For
Kings Old Boys a Paul Veasey goal got them up
and running but it was cancelled out by Raul (not
the one of Real Madrid fame!). In the second half
we were to witness athird and decisive goal which
went to Atiko Team's Ramon. Final score, 2-1.
