The
2010 Valencia Fives would see a brand new eurofootballfives.com
winner. From the 20 teams in the original draw
just two remained. Futbol City and Galacticos
were just two halves of 8 minutes away from glory.
The final would see Spain versus England with
a clash of cultures and a clash of styles. It
would be intriguing stuff to see who would emerge
victorious.
The
two teams had met earlier in the day in Group
D. When they met on that occasion both teams were
unbeaten with three victories but in the head-to-head
clash Futbol City emerged 3-0 winners to take
the Group D title. Since then both teams had won
two from two to reach this stage and Futbol City
would very much like a repeat of the morning game.
Galacticos's task was to ensure that did not happen.
It
did not start well for Galacticos as the game
had barely kicked off when Wilmar Asensi Alberola
put Futbol City 1-0 up. Within a matter of minutes
though we were back to all square as Galacticos
pulled level through Marcus Foley. The game was
then very even and the two teams fought tooth
and nail. It looked like the teams would turn
round at the break level but Ibrahima Bryo had
different ideas as he gave Futbol City an important
lead and a great psychological blow.
For
much of the second half the game was still in
the balance and the trophy could still be held
aloft by either captain. It was then that we saw
the decisive moment and the killer blow. In a
moment of pure brilliance Angel Ormeno Lopez struck
a bouncing ball from just inside the Galacticos
half true as tracer bullet into the top corner
that left Shah Pathan with no chance in the Galacticos
goal. It made the scoreline 3-1 and it was a hammer
blow to the English team's chances. From there
it was always going to be a tough ask and Tomas
Ormeno Lopez capitalized on the situation with
two late goals to make the winning score 5-1.
Our
commiserations go to Galacticos on coming so close
and the 5-1 final score was particularly harsh
on them. They were very much in the game until
mid-way through the second half. We are sure,
with performances like these, a eurofootballfives.com
title will not be too far away.
We
send our congratulations to all the teams who
participated in what was a great day's competition
and most importantly our winners, Futbol City
. The local team celebrated in spectacular style
and with a 100% record which included 7 victories
it has hard to say they were not worthy winners
on the day.
Thank
you to all our teams who made the Valencia Fives
a great finale to our 2010 season. We look forward
to seeing you all again for an even better 2011!
