Given Los Herculanos's record of played two, lost two and conceding 10 goals along the way you would think that unbeaten Dickie Dogs would sweep aside their Spanish opponents without any trouble. The game may not have been quite as easy as they would have thought.

They always looked on top and scoring 5 goals along the way meant that anything but a win was never really in doubt although a Javi Civerza hat-trick for Los Herculanos meant that Dickie Dogs could never totally relax. Paul Haezewindt, Paul Hillier, Neil Ainger, Mark Bee and an own goal saw the Dickie Dogs move on to 7 points. The challenge was for the rest to catch them.

The two teams in closest attendance to Dickie Dogs were Triple D and Los Betetas who came face to face in Game 7. A win here would put the victors in pole position to make the Cup whereas a draw would see both teams going into their final game with the pressure really on.

It was the Spanish team who drew first blood in a keenly contested first half and a 1-0 first half lead gave Los Betetas the advantage. In the second half Los Betetas moved further ahead as two second half goals led to a comfortable 3-0 win…on paper anyway. Los Betetas moved to the top of Group C on goal difference. Triple D whilst suffering their first defeat still had a good chance of making the Cup but would need to win their last game and see what happened.

Bridge House A needed to win their last two games to make the Cup competition and they had the perfect opportunity to secure three of those six required points when they played Los Herculanos. Los Herculanos had proved to be the weak link in Group C and had conceded an average of 5 goals per game thus far. Bridge House A opened the floodgates on this leaky defence by securing the biggest win of the tournament, 10-1.

The Bridge House A forwards had a field day as Toby Gardner led the way with a double hat-trick, Olly Gardner scored twice, Ali Phipps got on the scoresheet again and there was a first goal of the day for Ian Balding. It was a sensational win for Bridge House A and with a healthy goal difference the Cup looked a much more likely prospect for them. Los Herculanos were now condemned to the Wooden Spoon competition.

The top 2 met in Game 9 with Dickie Dogs and Los Betetas knowing that a draw would be good enough to see both sides through to the Cup. Would we see the teams settle for the result that would be good enough for both in a scenario similar to that of West Germany v Austria in the 1982 World Cup or would they go out for victory to win Group C and keep Triple D and Bridge House A in the hunt for the final Cup qualifying pace? The answer, and the winner for football, was both teams played the game to win. It was Dickie Dogs who went on to claim victory and jump above their opponents to the top of Group C courtesy of a 3-1 win.

Neil Ainger (2) and Paul Hillier scored the goals to outgun Los Betetas (Jorge Robledillo Extremera scored their goal). Los Betetas were now vulnerable to droppint out of the Cup qualification places subject to the result of the final group game.

With both Triple D and Bridge House A on 4 points they had Los Betetas on 7 points in their sights. Los Betetas had a goal difference of +7 so Triple D had the more difficult task needing to win by 7 goals to move into second. Bridge House A also had a +7 goal difference so a win by any margin would be good enough for them and they were well placed. A draw would see both teams play in the Plate.

With the game underway it was the previous game's 6-goal hero Toby Gardner who drew first blood for Bridge House A to give his team a vital lead. When Ali Phipps extended that lead to 2-0 before half-time and Bridge House A could virtually taste the Cup. In the second half two goals from Matt Johnson would have whet the lips of both Triple D and Los Betetas. The fate of Los Betetas was out of their own hands and they just had to watch and suffer.

Bridge House A did have their fate in their own hands and when Olly Gardner scored his team's 3rd goal of the game he secured a 3-2 win and Cup qualification for his team. It was tough luck on Los Betetas who missed out on goal difference and they would join Triple D in the Plate.
