A
full strength SK Zelenec
against Rigford Seahawks
could easily have been the lineup battling for
the 2009 Prague Trophy Cup Final. As it turned
out the two teams were meeting in the Plate Final
– a testament to the strength of the teams in
this tournament and notably the Group of Death
from which both these teams emerged.
Cast
your mind back to the morning group phase when
these two teams met and you may recall a 2-0 victory
for the Rigford Seahawks. A repeat of that scoreline
would do them just nicely to pick up their second
set of silverware in as many tournaments. SK Zelenec
were in their debut final and would need to summon
up a mammoth effort to overturn the form book
for their first slice of eurofootballfives.com
glory.
It
did not start to plan for the Czech team as Matt
Raw scored the opening goal in the final for the
Seahawks. The English would double their lead
to 2-0 before the break from Chris Jestico. SK
Zelenec had just one half of football to change
their fortunes and score at least twice to force
extra time. Their task got even harder though
when Rich Clements increased the lead to three.
By this stage SK Zelenec were demoralized and
a ruthless Rigford Seahawks were in no mood to
go easy on their opposition. Tom Hallam scored
for the second successive game to make it 4-0
and even the goalkeeper got in on the act to make
it 5-0.
Another
fine performance from the Rigford Seahawks and
they will certainly be a force to be reckoned
with at future tournaments. SK Zelenec will also
surely have better days to come once they get
their injured players back in the starting line-up.
It shows the quality of these two teams when they
will probably be disappointed with the success
they achieved. |
