The
Rigford Seahawks
and Atlantic Star
managed to avoid each other in Krakow but would
come face-to-face in round 2 of Group B in Prague
. Based on Krakow form you would have to put the
Seahawks as favourites but both teams had started
brightly today so this game was really up for
grabs. It was Atlantic Star who drew first blood
when John Sweeton made it 3 goals in 2 games to
give his side the lead. Rigford Seahawks showed
just why they are champions though hitting back
before the break through Wayne Hayes to level
at 1-1. Into the second half and the game could
have swung either way. There would prove to be
a winner in this match and it was Rob Hale of
Atlantic Star who claimed glory earning his side
a 2-1 win and putting them top of the Group B
tree. Rigford Seahawks recovered from a loss in
the group stages of Krakow to go on and win and
they would need to do the same for repeat glory
in Prague .
A
fresh Dogshead FC
made their first eurofootballfives.com appearance
since October 2007 when they played in the 2007
Prague Trophy. Back then they won their group
with a 100% record scoring 15 and without conceding.
That was the daunting task facing DHL
Prague Blue who had already met Krakow
winners Rigford Seahawks. Group B was already
being dubbed the “Group of Death”. The Czech team
put up a spirited performance in the first half
and a solitary strike from Adam Denovan split
the two teams. Dogshead FC stepped up a gear in
the second period and turned a 1-0 lead into a
4-0 win whilst getting a number of players off
the mark. Daniel House made it 2-0 before a third
from Luke Brammer and then John Ashwell finished
off the scoring.
In
the other fixture in this round, SK Zelenec picked
up their first 3 points courtesy of Leos Latino's
non-appearance.
