Group
A kicked off with two eurofootballfives.com debutants
on Pitch A as El Studs
‘hosted' Bure Park Old
Boys. We were treated to goals from the
start as James Spencer shrugged off the previous
night's hangover to bag a first-half hat-trick
for El Studs. Ian Mansley found his way to goal
for Bure Park reducing the arrears at half-time
to 3-1. The second half was a closer contest and
one where goalkeepers and defences were on top
to prevent further additions to the scoreline.
The game ended 3-1 and El Studs were off and running
with three points.
Meanwhile,
on Pitch C, JNJ Global
Services were taking on Harp
Chancers. The Chancers were looking to
improve on their previous incarnation as Harp
Hospada but things did not start well as Gordon
MacIntosh volleyed home a corner early on. JNJ
Global services retained this lead into the second
half and always had the edge as Harp Chancers
battled hard. They did get on the scoresheet through
Lukas Vrba but it was not enough to earn them
points as JNJ added goals from Wilco Veldhuizen
and Martin Kolmhofer to secure a 3-1 victory.
The
final game of the opening fixtures was an all
Czech encounter between last year's runners-up,
Kehar Club, and
eurofootballfives.com stalwarts, DHL
Prague Red. In a very competitive encounter
both defences prevailed as neither side could
make the early breakthrough. A goal-less first
half meant the first goal, if and when it came,
was likely to be crucial. It did come and when
it came it was David Janecek of DHL Prague Red
who put his team 1-0 up. One-nil became two-nil
through Janecek again not soon after and the second
goal all but sealed the victory. Not the start
Kehar Club wanted although with a much changed
line-up from previous tournaments it would surely
take time for them to settle.
