El
Studs took their 100% record into game
4 where they would play in another top of the
table clash courtesy of Kehar
Club rising to second in the group. The
Czech team were getting into their stride after
a slow start and proof of them gaining form was
when they took the lead against the Group A leaders.
It was Martin Pecek with the goal that put Kehar
Club in command. At half-time they still had their
lead in tact and El Studs 100% run was looking
in serious danger. Just as they needed a goal
John Elkin found the perfect time to open his
tournament account as he found the back of the
net to put the teams back on level terms at 1-1.
The referee then brought down the curtain on proceedings
with both teams having to settle for a point.
Although their 100% record had gone El Studs remained
top of Group A and unbeaten. Kehar Club moved
onto 7 points but would drop to third place so
would have one more game to try and reach the
Cup.
The
team they would be chasing for second place was
JNJ Global Services
who emerged victorious in the Czech derby against
DHL Prague Red.
Both teams were on 6 points and the winner of
this game would be in a very strong position to
move into the Cup. A defeat would virtually end
the other team's dream of winning the Cup. This
was also a bit of a grudge match as Gordon MacIntosh
of JNJ Global Services had played for Molly Malones
on the previous Thursday who had beaten DHL Prague
in a local 11-a-side league. He was to taste victory
again as two goals from Vincent Solem put them
firmly in charge at half-time. They went on to
complete a comprehensive victory when Wilco Veldhuizen
made it 3-0, the final score. DHL Prague Red who
started with two victories had now suffered two
defeats. They would have work to do in their final
group game.
Bure
Park Old Boys and Harp
Chancers met in the final game of the round.
Both teams would need victory to maintain their
hopes of avoiding elimination and making the Plate
competition. Harp Chancers put themselves in pole
position when they opened the scoring through
Mathieu Costa. With no further goals before the
turnaround time was slipping away for Bure Park
. Andrew Heath pierced the Chancers back line
in the second half but it would not rescue the
points thanks to Vinny Ivanov's third goal of
the tournament for Harp Chancers. This goal proved
to be the decisive strike as they ran out 2-1
victors.
