The
2009 Prague Trophy saw us welcome back many friendly
faces in the form of Kehar
Club, DHL Prague, SK Zelenec, Dogshead FC, JNJ
Global Services, Harp Hospada, Atlantic Star
and the Rigford
Seahawks.
In
addition to our valued returning teams El
Studs, Leos Latinos and
Bure Park Old
Boys made their
international debuts with eurofootballfives.com.
The
inaugural winners of the 2007 Prague Masters,
Kehar Club,
were making their 5th eurofootballfives.com appearance.
They were the runners-up 12 months ago in the
2008 Prague Trophy and followed that up with a
semi-final appearance in the 2009 Prague Masters
in July.
DHL
Prague are one
of the most experienced clubs in our tournaments.
They have taken their challenge to Krakow and
Barcelona as well as targeting glory on home soil.
DHL Prague entered two squads in the form of DHL
Prague Blue and
DHL Prague Red.
The story for them started in the 2007 Prague
Trophy where they finished runners-up. The DHL
Prague Red squad then finished runners-up in the
2008 Prague Trophy Plate before going on to win
the 2008 Barca Fives Plate. This year they have
notched two Plate Semi-Finals (Krakow Trophy,
Prague Masters) and a Cup quarter-final (also
Prague Masters).
SK
Zelenec made
their 4th appearance and are always strong contenders.
On all three previous appearences they have gone
out in the Cup semi-finals and on all three occasions
they have gone out to the eventual winners. In
their ranks they boast the 2009 Prague Masters
top goalscorer, Jiri Jindra. SK Zelenec were looking
to go at least one step further this time around.
Rigford
Seahawks enter
the tournament as current Krakow Trophy champions
and will be looking to become only the second
team in eurofootballfives.com history to win two
tournaments (Olympic Phil Babb won the 2008 Amsterdam
Fives and 2009 Algarve Open). With much the same
squad as Krakow they were expected to be title
contenders again.
Dogshead
FC played in
the first ever Prague Trophy back in 2007. In
that tournament they won their group with a 100%
record. Their group included the Southampton Muppets
who bore the nucleus of the 2008 Prague Trophy
winning East Germany squad. After a fine group
performance Dogshead FC were one of the favourites
to go on and win the tournament but they were
upset in the quarter-finals by We Are Messi. They
had their chance to put things right in 2009!
Atlantic
Star started
their eurofootballfives.com career in the Prague
Trophy 12 months ago. They made the Plate Semi-Final
on that occasion before going out to DHL Prague
Red. An improved performance in the 2009 Krakow
Trophy saw them reach the Cup Semi-Final gaining
revenge on DHL Prague (Blue team this time) along
the way. Captain Clarke Woollam says the 2009
Prague Trophy squad is their strongest yet.
Czech
teams JNJ Global
Services and Harp
Hospada made
their debuts back in July and, by their own admissions,
did not perform to their potential. Both are back
and determined to do themselves justice this time
around.
