Round 4 of Group A began with FC Dad against GBS Reds. FC Dad needed to pick up results sooner rather than later to enhance their challenge. A couple of wins now and they could still potentially make the Cup. GBS Reds had all but ensured their Cup qualification but a win here and they would rubber stamp that.

 

The team at the top opened the scoring through Vincent Solem in the first-half and maintained their lead until the break. FC Dad put in a great performance and made GBS Reds fight all the way to claim a fourth successive win but the Czech team defended stoutly and the equalizing goal FC Dad craved proved elusive.

 

The 1-0 victory increased GBS Reds points tally to 12 points and ensured their safe passage to the Cup competition. FC Dad remained in 5th place – their Cup hopes over but still very much in the running for the Plate.

 
 
 

So far today Deportivo had matched GBS Reds every step of the way at the top of Group A – could they do it again? They had a game against 6 th placed AC Lesk so looking at the form book you would think so although it was not as easy as you may have thought.

 

Deportivo did strike first when Jesus Castillo made it three goals in two games for him. It was the only goal of the first half as AC Lesk were far from overawed. The English team got on the scoresheet themselves in the second half as Jason Nguyen scored his first goal in eurofootballfives.com competition. It would not be enough to earn his team more points though as Jose Barrentes strike ultimately proved decisive.

 

Deportivo had won 2-1 and maintained their 100% record. They joined GBS Reds in the Cup draw. AC Lesk remained in 6th.

 
 
 

Round 4 would be concluded with Team Also-Ran taking on It's Back. These two sides occupied the mid-table of Group A and this game would be pivotal to their chances. A win here and they would have a chance to make the Cup as best 3rd placed team. Defeat would end these hopes and see them fall back into the lower reaches of the Group. Team Also-Ran had so far lost one, won one, lost one – so could they maintain this pattern with a win?

 

Not if It's Back had anything to do with it as they were looking to make it two wins out of two. At half-time honours were even and the sides could not be separated as they turned round level at 0-0. We saw three goals in the second half with a goal each from Pete Malone (It's Back) and Barry O'Mahony (Team Also-Ran). The match-winning goal though was scored by It's Back's George Bowman. It was a goal that earned a 2-1 victory and consolidated their position in 3rd – they'd kept their Cup hopes alive!
