The
2010 Manchester Fives Plate Final would fittingly
be contested by two local teams – Creative Support
and Atlantic Star 2nd . Atlantic Star were making
their first appearance in a eurofootballfives.com
final after 3 successive semi-final defeats (2008
Prague Trophy Plate, 2009 Krakow Trophy Cup, 2009
Prague Trophy Cup). They now had the opportunity
to collect their first silverware.
Both
teams would go into the final high on confidence
with impressive semi-final victories. When the
game got underway it was Creative Support who
drew first blood when Scott Miles smashed in a
scorching volley direct from the corner. The stunning
strike received rapturous applause from the watching
galleries. The lead was not to last too long though
as Atlantic Star, recovering from a nervy start,
were back level through Chris Brereton. Both teams
were still very much in this as the game ebbed
and flowed. It all changed when Aaron Conneran
made it 2-1 to Atlantic Star and that signalled
the momentum shift. Creative Support now had to
take chances to get back on level terms but this
would inevitably leave them vulnerable on the
break.
Mark
Brereton then showed some personal brilliance
taking two players out of the game, skipping past
the last defender before smashing home the finish
for 3-1. A two goal cushion became a three goal
cushion when Phil Heoward made it 4-1. The final
score was harsh on Creative Support but no-one
could argue Atlantic Star deserved the win on
the balance of play. It was Atlantic Star's first
victory in eurofootballfives.com competition in
4 attempts and could be the first of many as they
look for more success in the 2010 Krakow Cup.
Comiserations
to Creative Support – we look forward to seeing
you in eurofootballfives.com action again soon.
