After months of preparation our first ever UK 5-a-side football tournament kicked off in Manchester on the 3rd July. Following more than 20 successful eurofootballfives competitions in Europe we debuted at home to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

2009 Amsterdam Fives champions, Bull Heads, got us underway on Pitch B against the Wafty Crankers who were only just back from Barcelona Fives action last weekend. The Bull Heads carried on from where they left off in the Dutch capital 12 months ago and once Jose Fernandes put them in the lead they never looked back. Neil Bennett added two more for a solid 3-0 victory. Maybe the Wafty Crankers were suffering a Barcelona hangover?

On Pitch C debutants Basford United met eurofootballfives regulars Atlantic Star. Atlantic Star were showing steadily improving results after 2 trips to Prague and another to Krakow and were hoping Manchester would see them continue this trend. They did not get the best start here though as they ran into a strong Basford United team. James Needham and PJ Shiggins goals for the team from Nottingham outgunned the sole strike from Atlantic Star's Dave O'Brien. Final score, 2-1.

Creative Support picked up the easiest 3 points of the day when they claimed a 3-0 walkover against Ireland 's Wife Can't Wrestle. The lads, over from Ireland for the weekend, had been enjoying Manchester 's superb nightlife a little too much (if too much is possible!) and their hangover's delayed their arrival. They had 4 games to recover the situation.
