We arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage with 6 teams still in action. Due to there being 6 teams two of the teams would earn a bye to the Semi-Final. Those two teams would be the 5th placed finishers in the group – JNJ High Wycombe from Group A, JNJ Pinewood from Group B.

The first Quarter-Final saw GBS Reds on Beeston Operation Leeds. GBS Reds were no strangers to the Plate competition in eurofootballfives.com competition having won the Plate at our 2010 Prague Trophy and 2012 Berlin Fives tournaments. Specifically at the JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament they had played in 2 Plate Quarter-Finals and won them both. At Prague 2012 they secured a 2-0 win over Switzerland's Team Zug and in 2015 they claimed a 5-0 win over Germany's JNJ Wuppertal.

Beeston Operation Leeds were breaking new ground but shouldbe buoyed by the fact both teams had an identical group record of 1 win, 3 points from the group phase. Beeston Operation Leeds had the better goal difference of -11 compared to GBS Reds -13. GBS Reds had been the more free-scoring with 7 goals to their opponents 5.

It was that goal-scoring prowess that helped them here as they stormed to a 4-0 first-half lead. David Alonso (2), Harris Vignozzi and Marcel Ghezzo were all on target for the Czech team. The game evened up after the break and there was something to cheer for both teams. Beeston Operation Leeds scored a consolation with Alex Lockley's second of the day. For GBS Reds, David Alonso went on to complete a fine personal hat-trick. Final score, 5-1.

GBS Reds liked a Plate Quarter-Final – 3 wins in 3 attempts - they were through to the Semi-Finals, Beeston Operation Leeds' time on the pitch was over.

 
 
 

We moved to Pitch C for the other Plate Quarter-Final which saw Janssen Portugal take on Synthes UK 2. Janssen Portugal had played well this morning and although they picked up just 1 win they had never lost by more than 2 goals. In fact, despite 5 defeats, they had a goal difference of just -6. This included a narrow loss to Synthes UK 1 (3-2) the sister squad of their opponents here.

Synthes UK 2 would play in their second Plate Quarter-Final. They missed out on the knock-out stage (as Gerri Hattricks) at the Bratislava 2014 event but reached this stage 12 months ago in Prague. On that occasion they lost out 5-2 to JNJ Middle East. Could they reach a first Semi-Final here?

We reached half-time no closer to knowing which of these two teams would progress. It was 0-0 at the break. After the break the goals flowed and we had three to enjoy. It was Janssen Portugal who edged it 2-1 thanks to goals from Mateus Vargas and Tiago Santos. David Jobe scored what would by the final Synthes UK 2 goal of the day.
