Round 5 began with JNJ Pinewood and Beeston Operation Leeds as fifth place met seventh place. JNJ Pinewood had just tasted defeat for the first time and would be keen to get back to winning ways quickly. A couple of draws had stalled their early progress but defeat in the last game meant wins were now required to surge up the table.

Beeston Operation Leeds had experienced a slow start this morning with 3 defeats so far and, in terms of form, the momentum of the scores was worrying. A 2-0 defeat was followed by a 3-0 and then a 4-0. JNJ Pinewood were nailed on for 5-0 right?

Once results start going against you it is easy for heads to go down, legs to get heavier, to give up on tracking runners etc, etc and for results to fall off a cliff. However, Beeston Operation Leeds metaphorically rolled up their sleeves and produced a great first half performance to steady the ship. It was 1-1 at the break thanks to goals from Fraser Harland (JNJ Pinewood) and Kahl Newrick (Beeston Operation Leeds) – the Leeds team's first goal of the day.

It got even better for Beeston Operation Leeds after the break as Alex Lockley put his team 2-1 up before Kahl Newrick crowned a fine performance to secure a superb 3-1 win for his team. Beeston Operation Leeds were up and running in the tournament.

Synthes UK 1 were the next team on Pitch B against Slavoj Consumer. At the Prague 2015 tournament Slavoj Consumer defeated De Puy Synthes 2 in the group stages (2-0) but Synthes UK 1 were a much tougher proposition.

Synthes UK 1 made their debut at the Bratislava 2014 tournament (as Tekkers Lovakia) winning their group with 13 points from a possible 15. They went on to win their Cup Semi-Final 4-1 against JNJ Zug before narrowly missing out on ultimate glory 2-1 to JNJ High Wycombe A.

Fast forward 12 months to Prague 2015 and De Puy Synthes 1 were in fine form as they won Group A before a penalty shoot-out win over JNJ Poland in the Cup Quarter-Finals. It was penalty shoot-out time again in the Cup Semi-Finals but this time they were on the wrong end of the result as they fell to the eventual winners, Cilag Team 1 (Swi).

A third straight win could send them top of the group table here (subject to JNJ Middle East's result on Pitch C). Adam Lowe scored twice in their previous game and he was the hero of this match too. He bagged another double in a 2-0 win – JNJ Middle East over to you…..

Into Game 15 of Group B and there was still Janssen Portugal and JNJ Middle East to complete Round 5 as the teams competed on Pitch C. There was much at stake for both teams and in particular JNJ Middle East who needed to win to maintain their grip on the lead of the league table.

For Janssen Portugal, they started the game in 6th position but Beeston Operation Leeds were en route to victory on Pitch A that would see them slip to the foot of the table if they failed to win. Janssen Portugal could consider themselves unfortunate not to pick-up a point to date – so far, they had 3 defeats and only a -4 goal difference. Their games had been close.

Janssen Portugal had a 100% loss record, JNJ Middle East had a 100% win record. If you were a betting man you may want to bet your house on a JNJ Middle East win. The game went with the form book but it was close – a Matt Tominey goal separating the two teams at the break. In fact it was a goal in each half that sunk the Portuguese as Michael Le Bihan's second goal in as many games secured a 2-0 victory for JNJ Middle East.

JNJ Middle East were top of the table, had a maximum 12 points and were yet to concede a goal. They were contenders for this tournament.
