At the start of Round 3, we had JNJ Medical Russia versus Synthes UK 2. JNJ Russia had started off well with a thumping 5-1 win but had sat out Round 2. Would this interrupt their form and rhythm as they returned to action in Round 3?

Synthes UK 2 had suffered back-to-back defeats but time was still on their side in this 7-team group format. They were playing a team who they lost 1-0 to during the group phase of the Bratislava 2014 tournament. That was against a Russia B team but the Russian team had concentrated their strength into one squad over the last two seasons and so this promised to be a tougher game compared with that 2014 encounter.

JNJ Medical Russia continued from where they left off against GBS Reds – in the goals. They scored 5 in their opening game and had four more here. They were spreading the goals around with Vladimir Doroshenkov, Rustam Kecherukov, Stanislav Martynov and Andrey Sheremetyev all on target. Two goals in each half were enough to account for Synthes UK 2.

Next up we had Maidenhead A versus JNJ Poland. Both teams had enjoyed a great start to the tournament with both teams yet to drop a point. Maidenhead A lead the way in Group A but JNJ Poland could join them at the summit if they were to win here.

Maidenhead A came into the game with two clean sheets to their name but their defensive record would take a massive dent as JNJ Poland raced to a 3-0 lead. Jacek Banas scored both goals in the opening game and he scored two more here either side of a strike from Mariusz Lesiewicz.

After the break Jacek Banas went on to complete a fine personal hat-trick and he was an early contender for the golden boot with 5 goals in 2 games. There was to be some joy for Maidenhead A as Niall Dowling scored in the second successive game but it would only prove to be a consolation on this occasion. Final score, 4-1 to JNJ Poland.

On pitch C we had GBS Reds (Cze) versus The Rodallega Bombs (Eng) to look forward to. Both teams had a record of 1 win and 1 loss from their opening two games. A win for either would see them make it a 4-team tie at the top of Group A.

The two teams had met before with 3 encounters in Prague 2015. In the group phase Leeds One defeated GBS Reds B 3-2 whilst GBS Reds A defeated Leeds Two, 3-0. GBS Reds B beat Leeds Two 6-1 in the Wooden Spoon Final. Both offices had concentrated their efforts into one team this year so it would be an intriguing contest.

The opening half proved to be a fairly tight and even contest with the two teams sharing 4 goals equally between them. Byron Kinder and George Lazaro scored the goals for The Rodallega Bombs whilst the GBS Reds goals went to their Italian marksman Harris Vignozzi and to Marko Titizov.

Last time out GBS Reds had been level at the break before benefitting from a second half winner. This time they were to be on the wrong end of a second half winner as George Lazaro's second of the game meant The Rodallege Bombs would run out 2-1 victors.
