Next
up was Synthes UK 1 of England against JNJ Pinewood
– also from England. Synthes UK 1 were one of
the teams to watch having lost in the Cup Final
and on penalties in the Cup Semi-Final in the
last two years.
JNJ
Pinewood played in the inaugural JNJ Euro Soccer
Tournament in Prague 2012. They picked up 7
points from 15 in a very tough group (that featured
the 2012 winners JNJ Croatia and the 2013 winners
JNJ Russia A) to qualify for the Plate competition.
In the knock-out phase they picked up a 1-0
win over Team Baltic before a 2-1 Semi-Final
win over GTSC of Belgium.
In
the 2012 Plate Final they came close to glory
but missed out against local team Slavoj Consumer
(3-1) and collected Runners-Up medals in the
presentation. Krakow 2016 sees a welcome return
to action.
It
was a great start for JNJ Pinewood as they found
themselves the early front-runners leading 2-1
at the break thanks to goals from Gareth Jones
and Fraser Harland. An Andy Preece goal kept
Synthes UK 1 in the hunt and after the break
they secured a draw thanks to a Tom Woollams
goal. It was a captivating start to Group B
on pitch B – honours even.
