We began Round 7 with lots to play for with 6 of the teams still in action. The top 3 teams were already decided but we did not know in which order they would finish. A higher finish could have a potentially favourable impact on their knock-out campaign. The final Cup place was still in the balance but with The Rodallega Bombs holding their fate in their own hands.

The Rodallega Bombs needed only a draw in order to guarantee Cup qualification. They could afford to lose the game if JNJ High Wycombe failed to win their final game. Looking ahead in the table they could finish 3rd if they won and Maidenhead A lost their final game with a six goal swing in goal difference. This would not be easy as The Rodallega Bombs final game would be against JNJ Poland.

JNJ Poland needed to match (or better) JNJ Medical Russia's last result and score to be crowned Group A champions. Anything less and they would be second with the Russians league winners. This was a very even contest and we reached half-time level at 0-0.

The second half would see matters decided and it would be a first defeat of the day for JNJ Poland. Oliver Watkins, a late addition to The Rodallega Bombs, fully justified his call up with a winner that secured his team's place in the elite Cup competition. It was a great performance and win for The Rodallega Bombs.

For JNJ Poland, it was a disappointing way to end the group but they should not be disappointed as it had been a superb morning's work for them.

Next up was Maidenhead A versus JNJ Medical Russia. This game was being played simultaneously with the other games in Round 7 and these two teams requirements going into the game were virtually the mirror image of The Rodallega Bombs and JNJ Poland's above.

JNJ Medical Russia needed to better the result of JNJ Poland to win Group A. Maidenhead A needed to avoid defeat to secure at least third place. In theory Maidenhead A could still win the Group with a big win and a heavy defeat to JNJ Poland. A four goal win would see Maidenhead A move above their opponents.

We did get a four goal win but it was not to Maidenhead A. JNJ Medical Russia kept their unbeaten run going and extended it 6 games. They stormed to the Group A title in the end with goals from Rustam Kecherukov, Stanislav Martynov, Gaspar Arutyunov and Rostyslav Finkel.

JNJ Medical Russia would go into the Cup competition as one of the tournament favourites. Maidenhead A would qualify for the Cup in third place – a very good effort on debut. The lunch break now ensued for them to regroup and mount their title push in the knock-out phase.

The final thing to wrap up in Group A was JNJ High Wycombe versus Synthes UK 2. At kick-off JNJ High Wycombe needed to win and hoped The Rodallega Bombs would lose in order to qualify for the Cup. They may or may not have known what was happening on the other pitches but as it turned out there was nothing they could do here as The Rodallega Bombs went on to win their game.

Synthes UK 2 could actually join JNJ High Wycombe on 4 points with a win that would see them jump above GBS Reds and probably finish 6th on goal difference behind JNJ High Wycombe unless there was a massive win involved.

A massive win never looked likely as the teams played out a goal-less first period. So, we kicked off the second half still at 0-0 but we would not finish that way. Alex Parkinson (who else?) was the difference in the goal-scoring stakes as the JNJ High Wycombe #8 scored his 8 th goal of the tournament.

JNJ High Wycombe won it 1-0 and both teams would progress to this afternoon's Plate competition.
