It
must have been massively disappointing for GBS
Reds having lost that 2-0 lead but they went
ahead again when Harris Vignozzi made it 3-2.
This was rapidly becoming the Harris Vignozzi
Plate Final as he finished off a sweeping move
for 4-2. There was almost a fifth but Joao Mendes
pulled off a good save.
Janssen
Portugal came from two goals down in the first
half and they were almost on the comeback trail
again with Francisco Andrade having a good chance
but he shot straight at the goalkeeper. How
valuable would that have been? In the final
stages Joao Mendes, the Portuguese goalkeeper,
advanced up the pitch on a superb solo run and,
urged on by the crowd, had a shot from distance
which flashed wide. The full-time whistle blew
and GBS Reds had done it.
We'd
like to thank Janssen Portugal for attending
the tournament and offer our commiserations
for the Final. The Portugal team and players
were a great addition to the tournament and
were hugely popular. They helped create a fantastic
atmosphere and it was a great pleasure to host
them.
Great
credit today and many congratulations go to
the 2016 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament Plate Winners
– GBS Reds! They have supported the tournament
superbly since inauguration and the win today
was fitting reward.
