The
stage was set, let's get the action underway.
It was a very even contest and there was very
little to choose between the two teams. You
could argue that Dragon Balls were arguably
shading it in terms of goalmouth action. They
hit the cross bar and forced Max Braithwaite
into an excellent save.
The
goalmouth action that counted though was to
the benefit of DDCH. Jay James Barrington increased
his personal tournament tally from 4 to 5 as
he gave his team a vital 1-0 lead.
DDCH
fought hard to retain that lead and as Dragon
Balls raised the pressure there was a red card
for DDCH. Not for a bad tackle but for dissent.
It was a straight red and seemed particularly
harsh especially in the context of the tournament
as a whole. Even the Dragon Balls side thought
it was an incorrect decision.
DDCH
played on with 4 v 5 but they only had a few
minutes to cling on to that crucial 1-0 lead.
Ultimately Dragon Balls were unable to take
advantage of the extra man in the time allotted
to them. The game finished 1-0 and DDCH were
crowned Plate winners. A superb comeback after
a tough start to the day.
First
of all we offer our consolations to Dragon Balls
on a fine campaign – they could not have got
much closer to the Plate winners' trophy. It
was a great debut and a pleasure to host the
team.
Huge
congratulations go to our 2019 Gdansk Tournament
Plate champions though – DDCH.
