JK Silvertown (Eng)

The second final of the day would see Lucanos Locos versus JK Silvertown. With eight games of football already under their belt the two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

Let's have a look at the two teams' credentials for the Plate title:

Lucanos Locos (Pol)

Previous best: Debut

Record today: Played 8, Won 6, Drawn 0, Lost 2.

Goal difference today: 17-10

Current unbeaten run: 2 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Daniel Kuty, Szymon Holona (5)

Clean sheets: 3

JK Silvertown (Eng)

Previous best: Cup SF, 2017 & 2018 Amsterdam Fives

Record today: Played 8, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 3.

Goal difference today: 15-6

Current unbeaten run: 3 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Chris Wright (10)

Clean sheets: 3

The statistics today showed that Lucanos Locos had the best of the results but JK Silvertown had the better goal difference of the two teams. When they met earlier in the day it was JK Silvertown who emerged victorious 3-1 in a game that cost Lucanos Locos their place in the Cup. The Polish team would be looking for revenge not just for the defeat but also for missing out on Cup football.

There seemed to be an aura about JK Silvertown at the moment. There was a confidence about the camp as if they seemingly knew the Plate victory would be theirs. It was a feeling that had been growing ever since that win against these opponents at the end of the group phase.

The English team had found a recipe success for and it was working round by round. The success was built on solid defence as they were on course for a fourth third clean sheet in a row and on course for just two goals conceded in six games. Credit to Tony Varghese for stopping the shots and marshalling his defenders.

At the other end the goals of Chris Wright were propelling them to victory. In tight games having a proven goalscorer often made all the difference. This was a close game with very little to choose between the sides. In the end, it would come down to one chance and Chris Wright took it. It was his 11 th of the tournament and it was not only a match winner but a title winner.

First of all we offer our consolations to Lucanos Locos on a fine campaign – they could not have got much closer to the Plate winners' trophy. It was a great debut and a pleasure to host all of the Lucanos Locos lads.

The personal honours of the day would also go to Chris Wright. His 11 goals won him the golden boot award. It was an award he won at the 2018 Amsterdam Fives and he now added the 2023 Barcelona Veterans version to his collection.

Huge congratulations though go to our 2023 Barcelona Veterans Plate champions – JK Silvertown. A fantastic win and they were fully deserving of European glory.
