Beijing
Rockets had been the pace-setters in Group A.
They had 4 wins from 4 games and topped the
table. Despite this, the job was not done. They
had AFC Blue Boys and Lucanos Locos breathing
down their necks with both Polish teams within
3 points of them. A fifth win for Beijing Rockets
would guarantee them Cup qualification.
They
would be playing Lucanos Locos on Campo A. Lucanos
could go level with Beijing Rockets on 12 points
with a win and really make it a nail-biting
finish for the three teams at the top. The goal
difference was also tight – neither team could
afford to lose this game.
Should
the game finish as a draw it would certainly
suit Beijing Rockets more. If you offered them
a draw at the start would they have taken it?
Maybe not as the 100% record and opportunity
to win to increase their chances of winning
the group were a strong incentive to go for
all 3 points. However, in a very tight match
the Rockets ended up on the wrong side of a
game decided by a solitary goal. That goal was
scored by Daniel Kuty and what an important
goal it was. The 1-0 win saw Lucanos Locos move
from third to first. They were level on points
with Beijing Rockets, level on goal difference
with Beijing Rockets but crucially had scored
more goals.
Group
A was heading to a thrilling finale.
