Dickie
Dogs versus Mitre Vets FC was the next game
on Pitch 2. The former were in a strong position
in the table at the end of Round 4 as they sat
in third place. At kick-off they were still
in third place but they had just seen FC Poloboc
increase their lead in second place from 1 point
to 4 points. A win for Dickie Dogs was essential
to keep pace with the Moldovans and keep their
Cup and title hopes alive.
Mitre
Vets FC were only a point behind Dickie Dogs
but had played a game more. They could leapfrog
their opponents into third place with a win
of their own. Third place was quite the carrot
as in the Plate Quarter-Final draw it meant
you would play the sixth placed team in the
opposing group. Dickie Dogs had only conceded
one goal so far today but that was soon to be
two as Kieran Ahern notched his third strike
of the tournament.
Dickie
Dogs had shown good fight coming back from a
goal down to FC Miracle and they were on the
comeback trail again. Their Canadian #7, Justin
Lebbon, had scored in their previous game and
he was on target again to provide an equalizer
for the second game in a row. This time Dickie
Dogs went one step further and went on to win
the game. It was Justin Lebbon again who was
going through a purple patch in front of goal.
His third goal in two games provided the winning
goal and Dickie Dogs were up to 8 points. Final
score, 2-1.
