Beijing
Rockets had just moved onto 12 points at the
top of Group A. AFC Blye Boys were their closest
challengers on 7 points but now with a game
in hand. That game in hand would be against
Bure Park Seniors.
Earlier
this year, AFC Blue Boys made their first Veterans
appearance at the 2023 Mallorca Fives. It was
another excellent group phase performance and
they won their group with a perfect 100% record.
They opened up with a 3-1 win over Ruta Uno
FC of Wales before a sensational 2-1 win over
4-times eurofootballfives.com champions, FC
Mahou. They then beat Peebles All Stars 8-0
before a 4-1 defeat of The Maulers. The Cup
Quarter-Finals saw them play against Les 5 Salopards
of France and they won 2-1. In the Semi-Finals
they met FC Poloboc but missed out on a Cup
Final for the second tournament in a row as
they lost 2-1.
They
could put themselves in a commanding position
for Cup qualification with a win here but it
was Bure Park Seniors who forged ahead. The
English team were only a point behind AFC Blue
Boys so could secure second with a win of their
own. Jason Carr's goal put them on that path.
AFC Blue Boys struck back and responded with
a Marcin Zaluga goal. The Polish team then fully
turned the game around as Lukasz Kowaluk provided
the winner, 2-1.
