At
the start of Round 3, we had Humble Goats versus
Dnipro. Both teams played here in 2022 but did
not meet on that occasion. Dnipro reached the
Plate Semi-Final whilst Humble Goats went all
the way to the Cup Final but were unable to make
it a Sevens & Sixes double that year as the
match finished 1-0 to Ball Bearers as Humble Goats
collected runners-up medals in the presentation.
12 months on, at the 2023 Amsterdam Sixes, they
were gunning for their third Cup title. Fresh
from their Sevens win two weeks before, they began
with a 2-0 victory over Santos Lagoon Squad. Wins
over FC Kicks (1-0) and FLA (2-1) kept their winning
run going before they finished the group phase
with thumping 5-1 wins over FC Dad and Boca Seniors.
They were red hot favourites for the title and
to make a fourth Cup Final in four attempts but
Wales's The Shepherd Arms had other ideas and
knocked out the Humble Goats, 1-0.
Today,
both of these teams had 4 points from a possible
6. The match promised to be a tight contest, and
it did not disappoint in terms of intensity and
competition. The first half saw both teams battling
for control, with Humble Goats showcasing their
well-known disciplined defence and Dnipro displaying
their tactical acumen. Despite several attempts
on goal from both sides, the defences held firm,
and the score remained 0-0 at halftime. The second
half was a similar story as the match ended in
a stalemate, with neither team able to find the
breakthrough.
The
0-0 draw meant both teams added another point
to their tally, maintaining their unbeaten records
in the tournament. While the result left the standings
unchanged at the top, with both teams still in
strong contention for advancement, it gave hope
to the chasing pack.

In
Game 8 of Group A, Los Perros faced off against
Post Busters FC in a match with significant
implications for both sides. Los Perros, sitting
mid-table, had the opportunity to climb to the
top with a win, while Post Busters FC were still
searching for their first points of the tournament.
The
first half was a tightly contested affair, with
both teams showing strong defensive capabilities.
Despite several attempts from both sides, neither
team managed to break the deadlock, and the
score remained 0-0 at halftime. As the second
half commenced, Los Perros began to assert themselves
more aggressively. Their persistence paid off
when Cliff Herder found the back of the net,
giving Los Perros a crucial 1-0 lead. The goal
was a testament to Herder's sharpness and ability
to capitalize on a scoring opportunity.
However,
Post Busters FC were not to be denied. In the
closing stages of the match, Rupert Gatehouse,
who had scored a consolation goal in their previous
game, struck again. His late goal ensured that
Post Busters FC earned their first point of
the tournament with a well-deserved 1-1 draw.
The
final whistle marked a significant moment for
Post Busters FC, who celebrated their hard-fought
point. For Los Perros, the draw meant they missed
the chance to go top but remained firmly in
contention in the group standings.

In
the final game of Round 3, Don Lowe's Dudes faced
Maai in a crucial match for both teams. Don Lowe's
Dudes had one win and one loss under their belt,
knowing that a victory could propel them to the
top of the standings. Maai, although unbeaten
with two draws, were still in search of their
first win to strengthen their position in the
tournament.
The
first half was an intense, tightly contested battle,
with both teams creating opportunities but unable
to convert them into goals. The defences held
strong, and the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
As the second half unfolded, the tension grew,
with both sides eager to break the deadlock. Maai,
showing determination and resilience, finally
found their breakthrough. Boris van Velthooven
emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal
to give Maai a crucial 1-0 lead.
Despite
Don Lowe's Dudes' efforts to equalize, Maai's
defence remained resolute. The final whistle blew,
sealing a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Maai. This
win not only maintained their unbeaten record
but also provided the much-needed boost in their
quest for progression in the tournament as they
joined the leaders on 5 points.
For
Don Lowe's Dudes, the result was a setback, missing
the opportunity to climb to the top of the standings.
However, with more matches to play, they remained
in contention, looking to bounce back in the upcoming
rounds. All was not lost.
